I dunno if this exists, I'd assume it does. I'm looking for a something that will automatically turn my PC back on if, say, the power's cut. I'm running Vista on this computer, so no Mac/Linux solutions plzkthx
B.I.O.S. (Hit del. at start of PC) I'm guessing you're running "Soft Off" on AC Loss. Try the "Frequency/Voltage control" menu in B.I.O.S. You should get something that looks like this then: http://upload.snelhest.org/images/0907223.png Change the red option i highlited to "Full On". This will start your PC after AC loss. Not 100% sure though if this would do it.. If it does, make sure you give me rep PS: HPET should be 64-bit if you are running Vista x64. PPS: Download Windows 7 RC Build 7100 free from Microsoft. Don't stick around with crappy Vista. Ooh boy do I have stories to tell you about Vista.
Apps don't run before the operating system (ie. windows) starts so there aren't any programs you can buy to do this. If your BIOS has a function to turn the PC back on when power is lost then set that, if it doesn't then there isn't much you can use. Do you know what motherboard and/or bios you are using?
I wish there was something to keep PC up for a few seconds after losing power. I often have shortages that are less than a sec, but it still goes out :/ And by something I mean something that isn't UPS
@Lob - I'm going to be one of the first to get Win7, I was part of the beta so I got that pre-pre-order thing. As it is though, I'm not comfortable with putting an unfinished OS on my main computer. I've never had horror stories with Vista (worst problem I ever had was for about a week period, my audio output kept trying to run through the TOSlink in the back). @BoP - No clue. Any way to to without crackin the system open?
So did it work then Fenix (The BIOS thing)? Or you're not doing it because you "don't want to crack the system open"? BIOS is nothing scary, and you'll need it whenever installing an OS (if your boot order is different). Unless you touch the CPU Voltage and FSB Overclock settings, you should be fine. Moving on... Why are you not comfortable with an unfinished OS? The 7600 build is like almost the last one and is as close as it gets to the real thing. I suggest downloading and installing the RC and then upgrading to the real one when it comes out in october. Although Vista never gave me problems it DID start to mess around after two months or so. It's an overall slow and unsuccessful OS. The Beta Win 7 is no where near the current RC though if that's what you're thinking. You could always dualboot too.
thats why i love that labtops have batteries. I dont have a need for it since i just have it in my room, plugged into the outlet, but it auto goes to DC battery if the AC is cut. Really nice since I dont have to worry about a small poweroutage killing my computer and any unsaved data.
Sorry it took me forever, I went to work. Yeah, I did the BIOS thing. I'm not afraid of crackin open my PC, it's just not easy due to my setup. I'd have to turn everything off, unplug everything, move my PC, possibly my desk. Just too much hassle. It was a little different than your pic, but different BIOS ofc. As for the Win7 RC, I jut don't want it on my desktop. I dunno what it's compatible with, what issues I'll run into. I have it on my netbook, so I'm used to it.
Wait, why would you want to move your PC and unplug stuff if you just want to change a tiny thing in BIOS.. you don't need to unplug just because of that.. Well did it work ?
You COULD open your PC. Or you could just press the Windows Key + R and then type DXDIAG. Then check what it says under system model. It should show you the name of your mobo.
Just get a UPS, Power filter and protection v brown outs. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ark=False&ActiveSearchResult=True&Order=PRICE
I can buy them from my work. It's not so much while I'm playing, it's while i'm out. I have my programs to autostart, so I'm fine
