Ive been looking at some prices on lcds and found them to be pretty good now.My budget is about $190 and would like a bigger monitor as i like to have multi windows open and browse, I am currently using a 21" CRT on about 1600 resolution and it is sometimes hard to read small print which on websites which I wish it looked bigger while not sacrificing desktop resolution and space. A bigger monitor with a high resolution would be my main preference and a bang for buck around $180 is my preference. 1) What company or brand is good in terms of lasting quality and good picture? 2) What do you think of these monitors? Asus 22" $174.99 LG 23" $179.99 Asus 23.6" $199 Asus 23" Ultra Slim $199.99
Are you aiming to buy a TN panel? TN panels are quite varied in picture quality. Even if it is the same brand and model number, one monitor can be noticeably better than the other in comparison. HP seem to be making good quality monitors at the moment, but the "TN lottery" applies to all brands.
Jasmine, as with most of your technical posts, you seem to assume people know about the topic as much as you, which doesn't really help anyone, I would think. Arch, I don't think a bigger monitor with a bigger resolution will help you. In your case I would just try increasing letter sizes and put up with windows and the burden of having to switch between them as that added 1 or 2 inch will not help you in a remarkable way. And should you choose to spend more on this project for some reason, you can always trust multi-display solutions.
But kuvasz, how do you know the OP doesn't know what a TN panel is? You are the one making the assumption.
ya not sure what tn is as i have never owned an lcd, but i would prefer a bigger size 23" vs a 22 or 21, and some of the prices ive seen are pretty decent, im not crazy on brand but want a lasting lcd that isnt ugly and has good enough quality for just a regular internet surfer and moderate games. And the cheaper the monitor the better but im open to really anything not set in stone in terms of it being super crisp to read micro letter or anything Acer X233HBD/ Refurbished 23” $154.99
okay. TN is the technology which most low priced LCD panels use to create the picture. TN panels offer a fast response time, which is good for quick reflex games, but they do produce a less than perfect image quality. Usually there is also a poor viewing angle, where colors appear to change if you move your head. The bigger the panel, the worse that effect is. The problem is, when you are buying a monitor that uses TN technology, there is no good or bad brand. There isn't a good or bad model to buy. It is a "lottery" because the one you collect from the store may have a good picture, or maybe not so good. You can't predict. So I say: choose the panel size, and the video connections, and whether you want gloss/no gloss, then go for the cheapest and cross your fingers.
@Jas: It's a skill to make an educated assumption judging by the wording of the post and overall feeling of it. Plus if they're asking for help then there is a good chance that they don't know much about the topic or don't know where to start researching it. Anyway, it was just an observation. Personally I can recommend Acer. I own an X223w Q and have experienced zero problems with it whatsoever. Installation was quick, and the menu is straight-forward (well, it was for me...). My only gripe with it is that the lighting of the power button is a little bit uneven, but I'm pedantic like that so don't mind me. So +1 for Acer
Ya i think a tn one is fine for me i just want a lil bit bigger as i like to have it on a higher resolution usually, Im gonan pick up this $155 one i think, ill let you know how it turns out, thanks guys for your feedback, havent really kept up with computer tech for many years so im kind of jumping back into things for sc2
Picked it up yesturday after work, $154.99 Refurbished. I am very pleased with thr purhase, it is absolutely perfect for for me and the color and sharpness is amazing compared to my old crt. I was a little bit weary about buying a refurbed but paid an extra $5 for exchange if there happened to be any dead pixels. I am pleased with the design and quality, thanks for your help guys! yeah i was debating on some really nice looking samsung ones for like 199 but i was like screw it, this one is so cheap, so it turned out just perfect. Yah i liek the blue led, why are there technical issues with some models? I remember when Acer first started with crty monitors back during warcraft days and all ofthem blew after 12 months, so I was a little hesitant to get acer for a very long time.
