I've created this thread to ask for some feedback on a new signature that I threw together and maybe to sell it for a symbolic amount of minerals if anyone likes it.
Showing Tychus Findlay posing with flying Mutalisks in the background. Any text can be added anywhere you want.
    SOLD

It's great! How did you make those bolts in the corners?
    Is there a tutorial anywhere?

He probably found a bolt image ^.^

    Crits:
    1. Lighting, you have contradicting lighting right now on the marine and background.

    2. Focal, no clear focal, make something the focus of your piece, although after a bit I can tell it's the marine, you should make it instantly apparent.

    3. Do a bit more around them marine, although the marine is blocked by the watermark, you can do more around the edge of the marine, either smudge the bg or do a bit of shadowing on the left.

Yeah shading the left sounds good, thanks.

And about the focal. How can I make it more obvious and make the lighting on the marine suit the background at the same time? As I understand it, the focal gets the viewer's attention immediately which would imho need a colour scheme/lighting effect that is (higly) contrasting to the background.

Well the easy way out would be Filter->Render->Lighting, but there are other ways, lenz flare works well for focal, place a blue one on the helm and then brush a soft light there. You can also do a gradient map from light yellow to dark brown and set that to overlay on your bg.

    Re: Signature WIP

Yeah that's what I thought as well. I shaded the left side of the marine and added two lens flares where the most shine appeared to be. I also reduced its saturation because it looked off.

I wouldn't like to tinker with the background just yet but might have to do something about that.

    How's the new version?

Better, but a bit more burn on the arm between the light side of the gun and left part of the armor could help. I would also recommend that you round off the edges and make the background transparent, don't like the current border too much.

I put the bolt back in to see how it looked ;D I'll round off the edges and make the border different and post it as the third variation.

In the background, 2 o'clock position.

I added the third variation and it looks very "stylish" with the 256 colours ;D Rounded looks nice, 256 colours don't.

I like the lens glare on the second, and the overall look of the first. IMO, put those together and it's lovely.

That is a really nice one, but some text would be nice. It is a bit empty to the sides in my opinion. Nice edges though. By the way, if the render or art that you used is really big, can you send me a link to it? It would be great wallpaper material.

I didn't know what to put on it as text, plus the Zerg aren't very talkative so I figured I should leave it at that.

And yes, it does look like predator but I'm not the one to be blamed for that :p

ps the art is from the official site and as such, pretty high resolution. Would it be for the WOTM by any chance? ;)

No, I haven't even entered that at the moment. I have promised Furrer to make him a nice signature and I have been slacking a bit on that, so that's still my priority. Even if I enter, the theme will probably not be the Zerg anyway. Thanks for the info by the way.
