Does anyone have any recommendations for a gaming keyboard and or mouse under $100? (each, not combined). The R.A.T. 5 looks pretty cool, has anyone used that, or the Razer SC stuff? I've been using my Dell mouse and keyboard for 6 years and I've never bought this stuff before...is it worth it? What should I get?
I have this mouse http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.207541300/categoryId.35208800 - I love it, there is a widely known problem that happens to a lot of mouse where the mouse begins to move by it self, I have had 2 of them the first one did it, I went to a Best Buy bought a new one, returned it and the second one has had no problems. It is getting a bit old so I am thinking of buying a new one. I like it because I can put shift and control on the 2 mouse buttons, me personally I would rather hit those buttons then pushing on the keyboard. This is the mouse I am thinking of getting - http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.171793100/categoryId.35208800 My friend has it and it fits your hand perfectly, it has ajustable buttons and has a rest for your thumb, it fits my hand perfectly, I would say I have medium sized hands. As for keyboards, this is a link to all the keyboards Razer has, http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/DisplayCategoryProductListPage/categoryID.35156900 I personally like the Lycosa (Non special ed) I have had it for about a year now and have had no problems. It is by far the best keyboard I have had. Also I think the Starcraft stuff is just utter crap. I mean lights to show your APM? Its just a gimmick I think because it has Starcraft 2 on it. They aren't really any better then the rest of the Razer gear. I have heard really good things about the Deathadder (The cheapest of the ones I have listed so far) They even have a left handed version if you are left handed. I know people that hate Razer (Razer is kind of like the AlienWare of Mice/Keyboards) they are good, but they are also flashy. I like flashy, and I haven't had any real problems with them so I personally like Razer, but I know people that swear by Logitec. Hope this helps some though!
I am a little out of touch on mice, I've been using my Logitech G5 for like 5 years now. As far as keyboards go, call me crazy, but I really like the Microsoft ergonomic keyboard, I shelved the Logitech G15 for the Lycosa from Razer, then switched to the Microsoft one >.> Though, you'd probably get much more benefit out of the Microsoft keyboard if you were doing 6-8 hour progression raids in WoW I should prolly hook one of the others back up, come to think of it. Edit - Is there a reason you'd get the R.A.T. 5 over the 7? The 7 should be in your price range, assuming you are getting the wired version.
My own oppinion is to get any optical mouse with multi buttons, the old intellimouse explorer i have been using that is liek over 10 years old now has had the customizable buttons since forever. It is gonna be minute in terms of the response time differene from razer mouses, the only differences maybe the click button quality as being not quite as smooth or springy, but hey its $8 oem vs $80. The added lights are nice and if thats what your after go for it, but imo its not worth that money unless your an allstar player, the differences are not significant, only the price tag is. Just make sure you have a multi button mouse. For a keyboard I need multi use for gaming and multimedia(quick keys for playlists etc) Im using an $18 Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard that works great and has fairly good spring action, i dont get fatigued fingers by having to push down on them hard and they are fairly soft to press down on. I dont notice any ghosting and I dont think it would make a difference unless your super picky and or a diamond league pro player. I think mainly the motivation for these 'alienware' razer line of kb and mouses are more geared toward the look, albeit they have some advantages in terms of technical aspects. Mainly its the hype and companies gaining by charging premium branding prices. For the Mouse the thumb click is Double click programmed, the wheel button when pushing down acts as Alt-F4 and the pinky button is maximize.
They above listed keyboard is the same one I use. It is my recommendation. Add in a MX310 Logitech mouse, and your golden. I hate wireless gaming, its just too slow for me... although StarCraft 2 seems okay wireless.
I pre-ordered the SteelSeries StarCraft II Keyboard from Amazon. They had it for $30 for a few days. Pricing error but they're honoring the order. At the very least, the overlay looks really nice. On another note, anyone here using a trackball instead of mouse? Currently using a pillow as a mouse pad which makes for pretty bad control.
I have a friend that does all his gaming on a track ball. He is the best Quake player I have ever seen........ and I've seen pro's play in person.
the starcraft kb is kinda ugly, but for 30 bucks i guess it aint back, dont know how those left sided numbpad and arrow keys will be, they look mushy?? Funny thing is my mouse is starting to fail on me, buttons are sticking and its an old mouse, I was looking at a bunch of mouses, alot of them are a lil ugly but are prob ergonomic. I wanted to get this cheap $25 gigabyte one but the drivers are horrible from what ive heard, all the logitech and microsoft ones look ridonculous, so i may end up splurging needlessly for a coolermaster one for $45, a bit more reasonable compared to the razor ones since it has tons of extra buttons
Tilesets are actually interchangeable, albeit they don't have much of a selection right now. The keyboard also has labels on some common hotkeys which should be useful for newbies. Given, that I basically cheated my way through the original StarCraft campaign, those should be quite useful.
I got this on friday and am extremely happy with it, i have the dpi setting amped all the way down as this thing is super sensitive out of the box. I dont quite utilize the buttons in sc2 except for once using a build key otherwise I find it easier to use the keyboard. The keys i use in windows are thumb 1- double click thumb 2- double click wheel(pushing down) - close applications Alt-F4 middle 1 - Mazimize window middle 2 - Minimize window Upper Middle - Change Mouse Profile SC2 in game thumb 1- double click thumb 2- double click wheel(pushing down) - F10 Menu middle 1 - B - Build middle 2 - V - Build Advanced Upper Middle - Change Mouse Profile Some photos
I can recommend Razer Krait as all-purpose RTS mouse. It is very light, fast and VERY precise. When I bought it, my -CS in Dota went up by ~20% instantly As for the keyboard, I have Logitech G15. It's very accurate but a little left shift key makes me misclick binds sometimes (when I don't hit shift, I tend to bind wrong units right after :/). Anyway, you can bind "gl hf" macro to one of macro keys
Did A video review on my cm storm sentinel mouse and steelseries qck mousepad for anyone who may be considering these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pibDb8s-uNA
i like razer mark, although expensive but it is the best and have a high peromance suitable partner for gaming mouse and keyboards
