I'm a new player and I've chosen Zerg as my race. I tend to do well early game with lots of harass and keeping the other players economy low, but as I expand and get 3-4 hatcheries, I keep loosing track of everything. My last 2 games for example, I did some nice ling harass and got my 1st expo up pretty quickly, then kept the pressure on, but then once I get my 3rd I forget to get more vespene so I run out all the time, I forget to keep spreading my creep so I start getting sluggish, sometimes I forget to get overlords and keep my drones being produced, or I don't produce any units for a while, all of which winds up with me loosing the game. I group all my hatchs into one hotkey to make macroing a bit easier, but I still struggle. Anyone got any tips on just how to keep track of everything you need to be doing as a Zerg? Or is it something that will come with time? Cheers
Practice. And make sure you're always trying to think of what your forgetting to do. Don't fall into zombie-trances staring at your units while they move to a destination or something. The game doesn't have to go very long before there will almost always be something for you do (repositioning OLs, setting way points, adjusting control groups, etc). Even early on if there is "nothing" for you to do keep your hands/mind active (re-set rally points etc).
Just a few tips that may be helpful. Hotkey your hatcheries so you can produce without looking, if you haven't done so already Also, just in case you didn't know... You can have your queen spawn larva through the minimap. Saves a lot more time than frantically going to each hatchery.
I have a note on my screen saying Resources (although I spelled it reasources, goddamn) Workers Larva Upgrades Creep Scouting The resources reminds me to check my supply, and also to build units if my minerals and gas get too high. Also note, I wrote them ordered by position. Workers are in your base, larva are at your hatch. Move a bit and you'll see your evo chambers or spires in your base. Then you're spreading your creep to their base. Then your scout is at their base.
Cheers for the advice guys. Got myself a list at the side of my PC and a build order that I like so things are starting to come together a bit. Been watching lots of Day [9] and Psy replays as well which are helping me pick up bits and bobs.
