Is Starcraft2 losing hype?

I remember when the game was 1st announced, so.much.hype. i got crazy, everyone's reaction was FINALLLLYYYY!!!! i checked the forums every day for discussion. time went by, lost a bit of hype, BLIZZCON!! NEW INFOO!!!! yay yay everyone is happy again, then blizzcon ends blizard feeds us a few crumbs here and there. then the last blizzcon showed the map ediot, amazing. hype is just seems dead now, we havent had any new info for ages. i feel like its losing the magic, im still gonna get the game and prolly need to upgrade my comp for this game. but as of now, im losing a lot of hype for sc2. perhaps they should have hid more info and released stuff slower, feed us more crumbs. everyone is just waiting for beta and that seems like it wont come out for a looong time.

 

its been like what? a year passed since the forums was established... waiting for it for so long is what killed the hype

I think, the bad thing(which in fact is not just very bad, but destructive for us) with blizzard is that they are promising things that they cannot accomplish...

They were saying for the beta to come april-may(dustin browder mouth) then they chagned it for later summer and now.. now what? What are we going to do?

Some people are armed with extreme patience.. But for the rest what? They consider only their profits..

B.net killed the Lan and in the process delayed the game for sooo sooo looooong... I remembered I was still studying in college when I heard about this.

I don't think we are getting any further news this year other than a few more BRs. I just hope that 2010 would finally conclude Wings of Liberties debut.

2012 is apocalypse so its good to know that we still have 2 years of playtime to enjoy hahahaha

I don't actually believe that we'll see another BR...
And if 2012 ends with our end we'll miss Legacy of the Void and all the story continue

As Ronin2011 said the most destructive thing Blizzard did is to announce the releases of the beta and is not yet released.
They take their time. But their time is long. This debate reminds me the "SC2 is a myth" thread.

I remember the hype SC2 provoked in me in 2007 ! But the game we saw in this year was different from the new one we see on the BRs. I think to have understood why they don't update their SC2 infos on their official SC2 site : it is because their infos are too different from what we knew in 2007. Just loo, at the thor for example. This unit is different now from the 2007 Thor. And more the time is running out more we get less interested in this game.
Sometimes I wonder that Blizzard is doing the same mistakes as they did with SC:Ghost. They canceled this game. They will remake it (probably). But now from the moment they designed SC2 in 2007 and now some graphic stuff are outdated.

PS : you subscribed in June 2007 ! And I have never seen you on the forums. From the last time you came here to now ... you lost no capital info ....

I can't even remember now how many years ago it was when I saw the first sc2 gameplay videos... must be around 4 years ago? It looked a fairly functional game then. And after a couple of years of patiently waiting, we've seen some minor changes to the tech tree, the odd unit get replaced, some subtle changes to the graphics, and a handful of videos. But I've gradually lost interest in that time. You're right that the hype just isn't there for me now. I rarely visit this forum now. For the past few months, I've felt I don't particularly want the game anymore. I'm certainly not going to be paying £40 for such an old feeling game...

 

No, Blizzard stopped promising things they can't deliver a long time ago. They've never said when the beta will come, they are always talking about what they are aiming for. There's no promise in there. They are just being nice by at least letting us know what they are somewhat aiming for.

Anyway there are a lot of interviews of dustin browder mommenting on when beta will come and then an official statement of Mike morhaime stating "later this summer".

You can call it "aim" if you like.. But it's a false alarm for me and I believe for the most of us everywhere..

This is why there is an official report of the product's delay. If it was just an "aim" there wouldn't be a delay... GG

 

4 years ago the first videos came. No, it was in the middle of 2007.
We have been patient until now. But as Blizzard has taken 2 years to resume their development they can continue like this for 1 more year. Just to finalize a game.

 

This site was made in May of 2007, about a week after sc2 was announced, so it's been around for nearing 2 1/2 years.

I do agree that it is losing hype, but I mostly come here cause I've made friends here, I rarely actually check the stuff related to sc2 itself.

I am sure that once the beta will be released some "old" members who have disappeared from now will come back. And when the game itself will get released .... OMG !! I will disappear ! LOL ! Becaause I'll just be in front of my computer !

 

So there's an official statement by Morhaime, guaranteeing a beta by last summer? Show it to me then. And Dustin's an enthusiast just talking about when he thinks beta's gonna be around, and obviously he misjudged. Lucky he never actually promised anything then.

Sure it's delayed in a sense, but it's all vague estimations. Never have they promised anything.

 

So Blizzard just gave us suppositions of releases. How could have they been so optimistic to think that SC2 or just its beta could have been released even at the end of this year ?

 

it isnt delayed, it just isnt going according to internal planning, pretty big difference

Dustin(Starcraft 2 Lead Designer) is an enthusiast as Mike Morhaime(Co-founder of Blizzard) also, I am presumptuous and Starcraft is delayed in a sense...!
