I am hoping so. I find behaviors of most blizzard players juvenile and/or distasteful and plus, I get jealous really easily of people who are better than me at anything that I care about. So it shouldn't come as any surprise that I despise anything multiplayer (except maybe coop stuff). And I avoid it whenever possible.

As such,I have a sort of love/hate thing with Starcraft 1 because the storyline is great, but the actual campaign missions are sort of mediocre by today's standards. And multiplayer is irrelevant to me. Sure, there are some custom modes/maps that involve coop efforts, but like I said before, the attitudes of most blizzard players disgusts me. I don't think I've dealt with such a despicable group of people since the ****ing 8th grade.

You mention an aspect I developed some times ago. Me too I like the single player and I dislike the multiplayer. I spend most of the time in playing SC1 and BW in the campaign than in multiplayer because I die most of the time. I just play in UMS maps in multiplayer because they are funny.

You are talking about a quality mission play. What does that mean ? I know what you mean : an excellent scenario, with excellent missions ! In SC1 most of the missions were summerized into ONE objective : "destroy everything and kill all units". 90 % of those missions. It was very boring ! And a lot of missions were nearly the same.
BW ahd a lot of missions like this but the gameplay was dissferent in some parts when for instance some buildings moved by themselves, units too. And the scenario was stronger.

Now for SC2 there will be 90 missions ! 30 for the Terran campaign, 30 for the Z and 30 for the P. So I don't know how those missions could be different. I think they will be the same, just to occupy us until finishing the scenario.

The other single player aspect, playing skirmishes with AI players, definitely needed improvement in starcraft 1 as well. I couldn't play a real competitive starcraft game to save my life, but I could defeat 3 AI players at once as long as I could survive the initial rush, just by setting up 1 or 2 bunkers, a few turrets, and 2 siege tanks outside their bases to set up a contain they could never break. The AI would even be dumb enough to constantly send workers out to just try and walk past my contain to expand, not even thinking to use a dropship to go around it.

Hopefully the easy-medium-hard AI will be appropriately skilled in starcraft II, and the hard AI at least will be able to react to and counter strategies like a basic containment.

P.S. It was kind of fun though being able to do things like defeat the AI using only firebat drops.

First of: Makatak, you just put millions and millions of people into a stereotype and insulted them all pretty badly. Including me.

Second: no, I think Blizzard is actually trying to make a crappy campaign. A trilogy with 90 missions, cgi, some of the best background lore ever... Nah. Those missions will probably suck. Just to annoy you. -a bit harsh maybe, but you made a pretty bad insult there- Seriously though: no worries on the missions. We already had an example of a raiding mission. There will be many different mission scenarios.

Welcome to the forum by the way... Have a good time, but please watch out when insulting fans.

Numbers alone don't contribute to a campaign being enjoyable. What does is the choices you will need to make where the campaigns branch off. Also there will be credits to spend which will give you several choices to make, without which, I assume, you won't be able to finish the following mission at all (or it'll be extremely hard). Also the cinematics will be a lot more fun and I'm quite sure the vast majority of the people will watch them many times. Then there are other factors like returning units from SC1 and the encounter with the Xel'naga. Also the new map editor gives a lot more control over the lot more features of SC2 so I'd hazard the guess that a couple of maps will have dynamically changing objectives, including killing everything, escorting, killing a specific target, controlling an area, creating a set amount of something, etc. I think most of these objectives will be given during a single mission in sequence to avoid being repetitive.

You will definitely be able to busy yourself with the campaign for a very long time, and by the time you finish it there will be UMS maps available. Also I think you should give melee a try. Everyone will start from zero so you should be able to keep up with the majority of players regarding skills. Maybe you can't play SC1 melee well because you were late to join in? That was the case with me... I only started playing it about ~2 years ago.

necromas, it's officially confirmed that the AI will be much much smarter, especially in the countering and scouting department, and it'll no longer be omniscient.

Good view ! Are you sure there will be an easy-medium-hard AI in SC2 ? In single player ? Or in custom maps ? Or both maybe ?
This is very good anyway if there will be this option. The AI will automatically adapts itself by our progression or will we have to shoose manually ? Seriously, I don't know the answers. =/

Well, if the AI uses the hardest mode, can the Terran AI player make the buildings fly ? Never in my memory I saw a flying terran building controlled by the AI (except in BW in the campaign, but this was exceptional) , it was always real players in multiplayers who moved their buildings.

PS : welcome to the forum. Enjoy, and don't play with the self-esteem of some members .... ;)

5, beats the amount in BW :p.
I like the idea with "branching"..
Anybody know for sure how it works?

See it as a skill tree in an rpg game. Each choice you make -can be a mission objective- unlocks new missions. Some might overlap, others give exclusive skills -missions-. However, the campaign endings will all be the same, since all 3 campaigns need a matching main story. Otherwise the lore would get messed up with each new part of the story.

Oh, so its going to be like StarFox 64. God I loved that game, except for the fact that you couldn't save and some stuff was hard as **** to accomplish. God that sucked.

And btw I did not intend to imply that all blizzard players are bad people. But if you've ever seen the stuff posted in the bnet lobbies, well...surely you know what I'm talking about.

I hope you unlock a level select or something that lets you do any missions you missed because you took certain paths, so you don't have to start new campaigns or load a bunch of old saves to do them all.

But what would be the big deal about keeping a whole bunch of old saves? Is your computer overloaded with porn?

It's inconvenient, and you would be regressing your unit unlocks and stuff.

  14. Look at WarCraft 2 --> StarCraft

Then look at StarCraft --> WarCraft III

Now, imagine three products taking as much or more of a leap as these games mentioned. That's three products full of that much awesomeness.

Yes, I know. Your brains are all over the concrete.

As far as the people who play on Battle.net ... I think you're way too sensitive. I get the feeling you've never really been anywhere on the internet (a.k.a the temple of the sleep of reason). StarCraft has some of the most mature players out of the games that have as much popularity. So, I find your comments some what humorous. Especially the "I'm jealous of skill" one.

Do you have a link to confirm that this was meant for campaign difficulty? I was under the impression that that was AI difficulty; not campaign difficulty (i.e. computer opponent/allies)

You need to work on your manners. Seriously.

There is no doubt on my mind that SC has some decent people. But they are heavily outnumbered by griefers, idiots, and the like. Sort of like the folk on 4chan.

  16. And sort of like anything that uses the internet to bring people together?

No, I never mentioned the campaign. Just the multiplayer. But I find it hard to believe that the missions can only be played in normal and hard. Anyway, the quote:

And about the rudeness in the battle.net chat: pff, those are just players who just lost a match and want to blow of some steam. Just block them if they annoy you. No need to make a stereotype out of all other players because of a few fools. All games have people like that in the lobby.

Well yes SC1 is not as flashy as many other RTS games out there. But for the depth of each individual mission though very 1 dimensional is some of the best I've seen in any RTS to this very day. Much better than WC3 in my opinion. But that's just me. For me I'd rather have a few very clear mission objectives that are really challenging to achieve. Challenging as in lots of brain power need to think strategies to do them. Not talking about insane skill here. Sure missions need to get harder as you progress. But I think the insane skill that some players have should be left for multiplayer or maybe a hard mode of single player.

Well back on topic. To the original poster. Single player is called that for a reason. 1 player only. Co-op missions would have to be a different thing altogether. Because that involves more than the 1 player. Sure I'm all for Blizzard making some co-op missions but separate to the main game. As many of us don't have the friends willing to do these missions together. And finding a random over battle.net to do it will mean there is lag. Sure in multiplayer it's just expected. But for missions? I'd slightly spoil the smooth gameplay Blizzard is working so hard to create.

And lastly you're not the only person on the world. And Blizzard knows this. Some people love multiplayer. And others hate it. And Blizzard needs to and is working to make both camps happy. You do not live on a desert island of your very own. Just remember this.

I for one am really hoping they implement a coop mode for the campaign. All they'd have to do is allow both players to share unit control with the same base like in a team melee match from the original starcraft. I know several people that would be glad to play that style of coop with me, and I don't think it would be too bad finding someone on Bnet to do it.

I also am wondering whether or not they will facilitate the campaign maps being modified using the map editor to make custom maps.

  20. @Aurora: I thought your post was directed at SOGEKING who was asking about campaign difficulty.
