i remember the "space-lounge" problem a while back and i think i have an interesting suggestion (may or may not be related to the space-lounge problem)

i propose to turn the "Introduce yourself" section into a "Members Personal Area" section..or something like that

the section would allow intro threads, happy birthday threads, happy holidays threads, as well as those simple "what is your favorite brand of potatochips?" kind of threads... this way, the section will still be a little bit serious yet still fun and interesting...

now the lounge will be transformed into the serious section with a "news" sub section...
lounge will contain "whats your outlook on global warming?" like threads as well as philosophy threads and any other serious topics

and space junk will still contain spam threads, posting games, ijffdrie, fenix, gatorade, pringles, and pointless picture and vids

The forum will get another overhaul very soon. Decicions on this are made already, and the problem is solved. Myself and BoP kinda beat you to it. And erm, you are pretty close to what it will become in your proposal. However, it will be even more epic then yours. :D

Just have some more patience. Today is a holiday, you know. :D

It's not so much people weren't invited as, when I chose to finally do something about the complaints there were two particularly active people on the topic so I asked them to brainstorm ideas and help work on getting a foundation under way. Once, everything is setup, I am sure there wil be some public feedback and changes will be made accordingly.

We are currently applying the finishing touches to some new sections. Right now we have a section for debates, one for casual discussions, and and off topic section with a spam sub-forum, so everything should be separated just fine.

The happy birthday stuff can go into off topic and the potato chip poll can go into the casual section.
The current events stuff is getting a section of its own, though the news sub-forum might be worth considering, we will have to see how it goes.
Jiffy, fenix, et al. will have their very own spam land section to go off in randomness SEPARATE from the off topic area.

There was a delay as I just started classes Monday so I got 5 tons of stuff dumped on me by the chef instructors. Should be done soon™

I thought you were into computer sciences and not cooking?

And yes, this was more exclusive than Hyperion, but I'm glad I wasn't part of this revamp but some other one.

I am the shop god, you may call me your majesty... The simple answer is, when people buy items from the shop, whoever owns the shop gets the minerals that are spent. So considering atleast some mods like to actually buy items for themselves, I figured it would be a good idea to have a seperate account govern the shop. That is the only reason this account is here.

Anyways, this has gone off topic, lets try and get it back on topic please.

^ More than 90% of the time you see Vryth you are looking at me. Anyways, back on topic, with regards to improving the social area its not about being exclusive, but about getting something done. One thing I have noticed a lot, is that more seems to get done when there is fewer people working on the project, especially if the people working on the project were hand picked because of their interest.

It turns out that programming sucks, as do the teachers at ASU.

Kinda shame that you're finishing this without asking anyone what they think of the changes...
Well, looks like BoP was in on it, so I trust it will be good

Well, once we are happy with the results, LK has said he will let Hyperion look over it, if changes need to be made they will happen, after that the new sections will be rolled out, if anyone has any suggestions or comments then leave let us know and we can fix the problem.

I have mentioned this before, but I am not a fan of Space Junk in general. But I understand the need to have a venue where people can babble aimlessly, so that it doesn't leak into the legit threads on the forum.

I asked about it before, but is there any way you can make it so that Space Junk threads don't pop up in the Latest Threads box? I hate how spam topics grab all the attention by bumping real threads out of the Latest Threads box...

okay then how about making sub sections click-able from the "outside" of a section instead of going inside the section itself?

    like:

    computer section <clickable
Sub sections: computer tutorials <still clickable
