(this is the same message I sent to Jon, with some corrections)

    Hi all !

I want an option integrated to the new SC2 game. You know I have played to SC over 10 years ! But I still play with this game the same way than 10 years ago. I am not a good player.

I just use the mouse, the space bar and the ctrl key. Them only !
    I still don't understand what a micro and macro are .... Yes, I am a nooooooob !

Ok, you finished to laugh ? Let's resume please :

When you start this (future) game I want to see, in the options menu, a link " How to play Starcraft 2 "
Once you click on this link a mission is loaded where some instructions will have to be followed.
It will be different from the "instruction camp" from SC1 (which was the very first mission, before the first mission of the Terran campaign) where we had for instruction to build 3 supply depots, 1 reffinery, 5 marines, etc ...

In the mission I am talking about for SC2, we will be obliged to click on some keys of the keyboard, use the mouse, click and select some units and structures, etc .... which will teach us (noobs like me) how to use ALL THE KEYS to well use SC2. For instance, one instruction will be ' click on CTRL and select the 10 marines with your mouse '. There will be messages on the screen for those instruction, inside the mission.

SC1 had not a mission like this.

    (...)

Remember too that when you entered the menu there was a "help" mode where there were some instructions.
Forgive me but this was not a good one. This didn't help me, or us. We couldn't follow those instructions.

It is better to get an instructive and intuitive help.

For Wings of Liberty we will get instructions in playing a Terran player.
And for the 2 other races we will get new instructions in playing the respective races. Zerg campaign, so Zerg player in an instructions mission. Same thing for the Protoss.

    Thank you

SC1 didn't have a mission like that because the coding didn't support it. Warcraft III actually had an orc mission like that (and the coding could detect how many units you have selected and of which type).

There will be tutorials for all three races, so I think that will be there.

Never played to WC3. So I didn't know there was a mission like this.
Good. It will be very good if there will be a tutorial like this for SC2. As you mentioned there will maybe be a mission like this for SC2.

Yes, it is helpful for newbies (like me)

What's up with all those Blizzard fans who never played WC3? :s

Anyway: Kimera is right. There was a mission like that in WC3, and it even explained abilities, so you should be fine. I like the idea of forcing people to use hotkeys. Everybody should at least try that once. If you plan to play online, you will get slaughtered without hotkeys. -Since the basic buildings need to be build FAST, or you will be behind before you have even build a single unit.-

"What's up with all those Blizzard fans who never played WC3? :s"

That gets really irritating when people ask questions about the map editor *sigh*

No problem! You can close the thread yourself if you want. It should be in the thread tools part. I personally think that this should not be deleted. I don't blame anybody, but everyone should know by now that all WC3 editor functions are available in the SC2 editor.

There are plenty of manuals and tutorials for it out there. Why not look there before asking stuff? Although I still really need to understand how to export units, abilities, settings and all that properly. Any idea where to find a decent tutorial for that? :s

'Fraid not, but you might find here http://www.elilz.com/index.php and here http://world-editor-tutorials.thehelper.net/ useful.

When Reign of Chaos was out (before The Frozen Throne) the hydralisk was not in the map editor, even though it was in the game as an Easter egg. Someone made the unit available for download in its own little directory, which you put in the units directory. That was really simple, so I don't think exporting is that hard at all.

However, maybe you can do this all internally. Why do you need to export things? To where?

SOGEKING, I agree with you. However, Learning to use hotkeys is quite simple. All you need is a bit of common sense.. eg:

    Spawning Pool... Press S
    Select Lava... Press S
    Drone... Press D
    Zergling... Press Z
    Queen
    Hydralisk Den
    Hatchery
    Basic Structures
    Advanced Structures

All the hot keys are highlighted in Yellow. :D

Also, a good one is Ctrl + # eg:
You select your Command Center. You press Ctrl + 1. Now every time you press 1 you select your Command Center. And if you double tap 1 you can center your view there..

I think your getting the idea..
P.S. I only did Zerg ones because I play Zerg :D

    //Off topic
I too am getting angry about people thinking they know what the editor will be capable of doing when all they've seen is 'Starcraft Campaign Editor'... I constantly make custom maps for WC3, I know the editor like the back of my hand. So to all of you who say "There is no way to put in an experience system" or "Importing models? You can't do that!" I say "pfft! GTFO!"

Yes, I did CTRL + 1 on a structure or a group of units. Especially in UMS maps on battle.net. But it was rare that I do that. I used that option on the 666 map for instance where you had to buy dozens of marines and to use stimpack to kill most of the waves of enemy units. I used to be helpful for other players in this map !

Of course there are shortcuts like c for Command Center, but if you click on the build button from the SCV, and that you select the CC, ... it's nearly the same. You just lose 2 or 3 seconds in using the mouse.

There are other hotkeys to be used, in other circumstances. I have to learn them.

But 2 or 3 seconds could loose you the game.. Example time:

You go for a bunker rush.
Your about to put up your bunker bunker.
It will be done in 2 or 3 seconds.
SCV gets sniped by a dragoon.
    Your rush fails.
    You Lose.

yea that would a pretty handy thing to have in sc2 but i've played for 10 years also and i didn't start hotkeying groups of units till like 2-3 years ago. and i'd only use a, p-probe, z-zelot, just standard units to click through building faster and build faster. but i never was like what u see like the pro's just like honestly using the keyboard more then the mouse.

yes, it's true. Sometimes you win or you lose because of a fraction of second. Most of the time I lose because I spend time because of my hesitation. My hesitation to find a strategy is one of my enemy in battles, especially against players, not the AI.

This mission will be helpful to give us the good reflex.

I know, they go off! you see them typing before game "1a2a3a4a5a6a7a8a9a0a"... And they whip that out in about a second.

Of course you all know a is for Attack-Move right?

    @SOGEKING
It is hard sometimes, but if you see a shuttle going towards your base and you've got nothing to kill it you build scourge. It's all about finding the counters. Well, maybe not all. But if you can counter your opponents strategy, isn't that a viable strategy in itself?

I use 'a' when I send my units to the battlefield to attack the enemy units once they meet them, else they move toward the enemy and they don't attack them. And they die while the enemy are killing my troops

Good, good... Because if you didn't use it id be all like "?!?!?" and ""...

But if you struggle with strategies, just find some good build orders on the net and practice them.

I just wondered something : do you know how to order a SCV to follow instructions in serie ?
    1. Build a structure
    2. Repair some units and structures
    3. Build another structure
    4. Repair other units and structures

Just folow this link and you should be fine.

It teaches you all build orders, hotkeys, strong points of your race -terran in the link- and even provides strategies agains the seperate races. The best guide was right there all along. You passed it every time before starting a match. I hope this helps. :D

Hold shift while you give out the orders and it should do that for ya.

    @Aurora
I never new this existed. It'd probably help a lot of newbies. But still, a newbie now will never stand a chance against someone with 10+ years of experience..
