Do these new units still Kamakaze? or do they continue to fire their guns? IMO, they need to keep the Kamikaze attack even if it means drop the stoopid baneling balls... I think its imperitive that BLIZZARD keep the whole "Sacrifice Me" thing happening, it suits the infested beings.
They still kill themselves, but without the boom. Fun little animation for when their duration is over, they put the Gauss Rifles to their head and... Full Metal Jacket.
Actually I think the change is for the better. They are easier to get (more viable strategy), build faster (doesn't take so long to assemble a good number), and last longer. I never used them in SC1 becuase if you were able to make them you probably were already on the verge of winnng anyway. Maybe they will get a less damaging kamakazi for a secondary attack.
They were expensive in SC1. So many gas for them ! In the videos it seems easy and cheap to build them. How many infested marines attacked the Terran base ! Surely they will cost less than ever. @Major Willy : are you sure they are suicidal ? I mean, they blow their heads up with their guns ? We have now the banelings which is suicidal. It would be funny to use those infested marines as human bombs.
Spoiler The term 'Major Willy' is practically a synonym to sarcasm around here. On the topic of infested marines, I hope they get scrapped with a sidestory that Kerrigan didn't find them durable enough. The whole idea of Zerg infesting anything sounds good on paper, but drastically hinder balance if you think about unit count for each race (Zerg will either have too many kinds of units counting infested ones or they'll have too few 'true Zerg' units).
Could you find a video of this? I'm really curious. As for the discussion, I like the new style. It makes them more swarm like, a mass of little units. Banglings have got the suicide covered.
You can see it in the gameplay trailer from the zerg announcement when the infestors attack the terran base: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v6397451Z2FMrdre Somewhere around 2:58~3:01 the first infested marine kills himself, maybe you have to look twice. edit: you can see it in the Zerg Reveal Trailer from the sc2 site, too. It should be easier to spot there (around 1:25).
Banelings are available in the game much earlier than infested marines. If infested marines become explosive (and as powerful as banelings) they would need to be rebalanced and somehow come about earlier in the game. Their method of production in SC I was too hard. Now they're an ability, which makes more sense. Infested marines are more useful, considering the way they're created, as ranged units. They'll pretty much always appear in a hot battle zone, and will rarely have the opportunity to actually approach enemy non-building targets and explode. Infested marines might be overpowered if they were designed to destroy buildings (especially considering where they're made). Infested terrans were pretty weak in StarCraft I. Despite the size and hit point increase (better than infested marines) they rarely made it to their target without assistance from Dark Swarm. Banelings live long until they explode, a big deal when setting ambushes. Of course, if infested marines didn't have a limited timer, that would less of an issue.
i think the Kamikaze attack suits them more and imo, it will be a step backwards if they change their attack from SUICIDE to Machine gun etc... The only downfall in SC1 is that they needed more armour, i think they should automatically have a level 4 carapace or something so u can send one into an enemy base and upon a massive lunge-suicide bomb, they also spread a plague like Slizzardo (Defiler) in SC1...
One notice : Now that those new infested marines are more like marines they can't burrow anymore. Plus now they die after few seconds so we can't make a trap against enemies with them anymore
@SOGE. We don't need Infested Marines to Burrow and make ambushes though, Banelings (as well as all the other Zerg ground units) can do that instead. Infested Marines don't really serve the same role as before. They are trained and attack differently, and the way you infest the structure has also changed. It's basically like the Queen: Same name, different unit.
i prefer the old infested marine system in terms of funtionality and the reasoning behind it... only thing i would change is that i'd make it possible to infest more buildings such as a barracks or a war factory and still produce the infested marines, i'd also make it that the building needs to be slightly damaged not almost destroyed before we infest it.
