In need of a extrem high rez version of Thycus Findlay "Artwork" render

    Hello good people!

I was wondering if any of you could give me a tip of where I could get my hands on a larger size render of the Thycus Findlay render (The close-up with open helmet and sigar from the SC2 website "Artwork" department. It is for a design project.

I have contacted Blizzard but I guess they`ll just brush me off for some insane fan or something.
The version available now is 1900 by 1200 px. I need a file ten times that size. But I can manage with anything larger then that...

Photoshop and Blow Up is not good enough for interpolation either.

Anyone got an idea where I can get a super high rez version??

    Big thanks from Norway!

Ten times that? No such thing. I don't even think there were any cameras that managed those resolutions when that figure was created to be honest. Buy one and shoot it with a decent camera perhaps?

The image is a 3D render of Tychus Findlay. They always have lotsa different resolutions based on the original model. The thing is that the one available on the "Artwork" page at www.starcraft2.com is only 1900x1200px which is like nothing compared to the size I need. The size is ment for desktop backgrounds...

Basically I need a heavier render. I can manage if I get my hands on something in the area of 6000 px etc. I can use a plotter and print it out in 150 dpi which is the standard for that kind of printing. It is all about giving an taking when it comes to dpi/rez. The thing is that there has to be press releases for magazines. They have to be 300dpi and have a ok rez so I have not given up yet ;)

I don`t think physically taking a picture of the render is a good idea. The quality would be pretty bad. I have a plan B. I am trying to get a printed version og the Tychus Findlay render and have it scanned in extreme high rez with a pro scanner.

Annyways thanks for the tip :)

I doubt you'd be able to find a printer that prints images 19000x12000.

    Thanks for the feedback guys!

    Warning! Lotsa text.

I need the xxl-image because I am going to cover an entire wall with Tychus´s face (The "Artwork" render og him in his suit smoking a sigar).

My issue is that the 1900x1200 is set in 72 dpi as it should do for desktop backgrounds. I need it ALOT bigger in MINIMUM 150dpi which is the minimum for printing large format prints. So far I have been in contact with three printers and all of them are able to print in H250cm x W(Length of paper roll).

I know it´s a long shot, but the idea is too good to let down. If u guys saw the Tychus wall at the Leipzig game convention you would get my drift.

The problem is that I have several challenges here. To be a 100% sure the file will look knife sharp it has to be like 24.000px by 12.000 px approx. This has also got to be in 150dpi. If I would get such a file it would be all peaches and cream. Still, if I would get half the size I could interpolate it in PsCS4 or with BLOW_UP from Alien skin. The problem with interpolation is that it makes a ****load of "bad" pixels that in the end will ruin the sharpness of the print. With BLOW_UP it looks kinda painted when u go to big compared to the original.

Remember, most interpolation software brag about 300% increase of size....I am going a bit bigger than that..

SO after all this technical crap the last challenge is HOW to print it. In several sheets or in one whole. One thing is printing it, then imagine gluing it to the wall. If I print it in several sheets it will look ok untill the glue dries. Then the paper will contract and you will easily see the cuts between each sheet just like when you do tapestry in your living room.

My idea so far is to print it in one big sheet and then get it laminatet with a matte finish. Then the paper will be a lot stiffer (So stiff u can´t roll it) and then I might attach it either with glue or a nifty system of velcro.

Whew! Thanks for reading. The entire room will be a shrine for Blizzard, and will contain three state of the art pcs all running Blizzard games for me an my friends. It will without doubt be a fanboy paradise. My girlfriend and I are moving into a new house so I have the perfect fanboy-gaming room ready for whatever stupid idea I might come up with.

I know it is on the verge of insanity to try contacting Blizzard regarding the render, but hey!, emailing is free...

Hope I cleared up my mission and did not make u guys fall asleep ;)
