    i was just going to make it a very basic simple drawing but i'm obsessed with detail

    Are you doing this with the original in a separate layer and just painting over it? It looks too good to be done by hand on your own :p Either way, you have some patience, that's for sure.

    I think you're going into way too much detail. Most vector artists I know, even the most meticulous ones, don't go over 6 shades of a color :p

    Vector art is bitmap too, it's just a distinct style of colouring. I don't know why he compared it to vector art though, yours is more like painting with water colours. Excellent job.
