Ok, I got an idea. Why not give the Mutalisk an ability to drop drone eggs? Drone eggs can't mutate into anything else than drones, so it's not useful in battles. But it would help spreading Zerg expos. It could work as 1 per muta only, like the Vulture spider-mines: once you dropped an egg, it is gone for that muta.

It is not just an easy way to make the Zerg a faster spreading race, it is also a non-transport way of doing so. If we add a better way of transportation, like earlier Overlords for instance, it would be too good. Making it restricted to drones would be ok imo. And in order for drones to do something they need: a) cash; and b) a set up hatchery/lair/hive; It would still be restricted to cash, even tho you could get a free drone for every muta. The greatest downside is that if you don't have a base to spend you drones at, they'll be idle and take useful 'control' space. So spamming them for nothing wouldn't be a good idea either. It would work exactly like a fast expanding method, which could mesh well with high mobility Mutas to take care of these expos.

    What you guys think?

Mutalisks aren't the parenting type. If Zerg gets a caster such as a queen, that should get some egg laying ability. I don't think Mutalisks need any kind of ability tbh (except for mutation to a better unit).

not bad, but the new nydus worms I believe will make this idea unneeded, so Blizzard wouldn't add this since the idea overlaps with other known meathods.

Yeah, Nydus will surely be useful as a transport. However, Nydus is so good that I'm guessing it is on the same tier as Nydus canal used to be: 3rd. So, having this skill on Mutas would create an early better possibility for searching and creating expos around the map: as soon as you get Mutas you can drop a drone if you pass on an interesting location, and start a colony there. That's the reason I meant.

You do have Overlords to carry drones, or you can just move them onto the locations through the terrain anyway, but I was thinking of a method that at same time enables a faster way to do this and isn't suitable as a transport, or as a direct spawning method for other units. If mutas can drop drones into far locations, Zerg spread will be unstoppable and unpredictable.

Overlords are too slow, and they should still be fitting for transport, but not for setting an expo. And Nydus is meant for base invasion as I see it, as it is too good as instant mass transport system to be cheap and easily reusable. As a way to spread "the seed" into the wind, Zergs would get a nice early dispersion method.

Well, I'm defending it but I don't know if it would suit what they have in mind for the zerg, and I can't say it would fit. I'm not the hugest fan of it either. Just showing what I thought.

I think dropping drone eggs by mutalisks isn't necessary because muta is a late game unit (for me) and I always develop the overlords transporting ability before building mutalisks. (And I don't think people would use it, because there will be the mutations for the mutalisks I think)

Btw it's good to see lots of ideas. If anyone from Blizzard reads these, the game will be awesome

Um...thats just like my Zerg Queen idea, except with mutas? Whats the point? It makes more sense with the queen. Queen aliens lay eggs...right guys?!

Yeah, but the only high mobility spammable and not so cheap unit to fit this role would be the muta.

Insects only get wings when they reach a reproducing age. Queens could lay eggs for unit creation, this example is meant to only suit the creation of expansions.

I don't like the muta in this role, it would be better to have a unit for only this role, or a modified queen.

Yesterday I found out a new ability which would spread larvas or drones in different directions and distances, and could be activated at a hatchery for example.. I would like it..

Yeah, this doesn't fit the Muta style. For Queens, this would be a great idea, but otherwise...
