When under attack there is normally a voice that says "We are under attack: I was brainstorming this concept and thought... How about a different volume and possibly a tone of voice depending on the size of the attack For example... 1. One probe attacks a city - have a very calm voice say we are under attack 2. An army trsnsports directly into the middle of your base - have a panic and loud (or calm and loud because they are professionals at war) say we are under attack! Maybe even different/specific words (might be too complex for a player to deal with) 1. Probe attack - "We are being pestered in the upper left field" 2. An army attacks a city - "World War three just fell into our base - help now!" And at the end of the day - dont make it standard. Make it an option to change it to this more dramatic vocals or to stay with the normal mode so each person can choose which suits them best. What do you guys think? -Skutch
A good idea in theory. I know in previous games i've heard the dramatic attack noise, frantically checked back at my base only to discover a lone probe walking around. I don't suppose it would be too difficult to program either, considering all the fancy stuff i've seen around games. I can't see many problems other than the fact it could be considered uneccesary (especially considering how Blizz would have to fork out extra money for it). There might be faults I havn't picked out of it, although it would be a nice feature.
Can not see how it should be implemented, since there are so many buts in it. If a probe attacks your workers and an army are nearby, should it say something special there? If you are attacked one place with some reapers, another with maruaders, a SCV attacks a pylon a third place and a fourth place a Thorship attacks you, should it say the position of them all, since the severity of the attacks are different? It is just, when it is an army, when it is harressment, and when it is just a scout bothering you?
I like the idea, but then we would have to change the unit responses too.. I mean if youre under attack and your SCVs are slaughtered you'll need them to scream if you click on them.. right right?
I think my idea has been presented more complex than it needs to be I think a basic change in volume and tone of the alert depending on the situation would make the game better like I said changing the words might be too complex.... Too many words is a turnoff
They actually did this to some extent in SC2 - they distinguish between "your forces are under attack" and "your SCVs/drones/probes are under attack." That way you don't freak out when your scout gets attacked, and later in the game you can tell whether your field army or your mineral line is being hit. Might be nice to have some more variety here though.
That's actually pretty damn simple. LEVEL1: If your base is hit by anything less than 4 supply- "Intruders detected in our base" LEVEL2: If your are under attack by a force say 20-50 supply- "Our base is under attack!" LEVEL3: If it's more than 50 supply- " *sirens* We are under assault! *sirens*" Numbers could be tweaked sure. You don't need the comp telling you exactly every different situation either; just a hint. "There is a force of 6 battle cruisers firing on your command center!" ... that would be awful... you have to play the game a bit yourself. Volume control would work too, but slightly altered messages based on force size doesn't sound to hard to do.
I like this idea. I'm tired of my carriers yelling "WE CANNOT HOLD" when they stumble across a pair of scouting marines. Srsly.
