Right now the Thor's artillary mode (the massive cannons on it's back) is just a special attack, like the BC's plasma torpedoes on steroids. This really limits the Thor's usefulness and means that the ability will most likely be used only once in a given Thor's lifetime. I recommend that the ability be altered so that it is not a single powerful attack but rather a "siege mode" that the Thor can enter into. Rather than using all the firepower on a single target the Thor would be able to turn and shoot multiple targets as long as it stays planted. It would still fire just as quickly and inaccurately, but use up energy with each shot. Once it runs out of energy, the Thor would only be able to fire as quickly as it could recharge energy (very slowly) The primary advantage of this is that you would be able to reserve the ability and use it as needed, rather than all at once for massive overkill on a really small aoe. It doesn't eliminate the siege tank at all because while it is of course way more powerful than the siege tank, it couldn't remain in that form all the time and players would have to use the Thor's artillary mode much more sparingly than the Siege Tank's artillary mode. Your thoughts? comments? insults?
While I like the idea, I think that it's just a Siege Mode on steroids and makes the Thor overlap even more with the Siege Tank. In all honesty though I still don't have an idea as to what Blizzard should do about the overlap between Siege Mode and Bombard. Both are sweet, and it probably is possible to keep both without being overpowering or overlapping too much. Welcome to the forum, by the way.
Well, as it is now it overlaps with the BC plasma torps anyway. I think in style it does overlap but in practice it wouldn't. I think for the most part they would be used a lot differently. What if...ok this might seem overpowered...it didn't need to plant itself to use the artillary ability? You could find another way to nerf it for balance.
They are having problems with overlap already we don't need the Thor to become more like a oversized tank
I still don't think there is that much overlap, I can never see anyone getting more than 3 Thors at a time, while having like 15 siege tanks is perfectly normal. The Thor is a tank with an ability to break up defenses. The siege tank is an offensive or defensive unit that is used in slow pushes and drops.
The suggested artillary mode is exactly th same as a siege tank. The Bombard ability it has now at least holds a different function and dynamic
I was talking about the present day model of the Thor and siege tank. I agree that making artillery as a deployable mode is way too much overlap.
Oh I got it...what if they just increased the area of the bombard attack by a lot so the damage was more spread out and it just rained shells everywhere? not as much overlap there....
