I think we need a refresher.

We've been far too lax about this. Therefore, I'm cracking down.

RULE No.2
There is to be absolutely NO discriminating against somebody due to race, religion, gender, cultural background or sexual preference. This will result in an immediate BAN.



If anyone sees any of this, PM a Super Moderator immediately, as well as reporting the post. LK, Kurai, and I are on most frequently. You can also PM the board's moderator as well.

You can discuss anything all you want, but the moment you attack someone, it's done with. Bans start at three days for the first offense, one week for the second, and a permanent for the third. However, these are soft lengths. The Moderator dealing out the ban can shorten or lengthen the ban as they see fit.

Therefore, don't screw up. Depending on who it is, your first offense may be your last.

Just an addendum to Fenix's post; here is a link to the forum rules. If you can't think of what the first 5 are right off the top of your head you really need a refresher considering they are all pretty much instant ban offenses.

Wow, some people should so have been banned several times over. I think it includes fenix

Indeed. Moderation has been a real slack ever since changing to vB.

 

Seriously, Moderation has really fallen to the trash since the switchover, somplete with some of the mods doing spammy sutff. Sad. Still no excuse for people to be a asshat though.

Rule 7 also says no spamming. Not that I dislikle spam (In fact, I'd dare say it's one of the only things that's keeping the forum alive these days), but It calls my attention that some rules are more strongly enforced than others. It calls my attention that the spam rule is not enforced, say because piles of spam are created everyday by you, Fenix.
Not that I'm attempting to justify what Babmer said at the religion thread. But if you just enforce the rules you agree with (like no bashing religion rule) and don't enforce the rules that affect you directly (like spam rule) then that is abusing of your position of moderator.
And please don't take this personally, Im just saying.. if rules are to be enforced and applied properly, this should obviously include ALL of them, or alternatively being lax with all of them as well.

 

I like forums to be relaxed on moderation.

But personnel attacks should be shut down..

 

Maelstrom we may seem relax on rule 7, but that is because the majority of spam is in Space Junk where it is in fact allowed even though its not mentioned in the rules. We may also appear somewhat lax on 9 and 10 because those tend to be judgement calls, but besides those 3 the rest are pretty much enforced globally when they are caught.

 

The problem I have with space junk is that I can never tell what is fair game and what isn't. That and the fact that since I don't really like it, I don't go there much, so I don't see as many infractions.

So spamming is allowed. Does that include double posting too? I don't think it should, personally, because hitting edit and adding to a previous post is not that hard.

 

Double posting is allowed in SJ since the posts don't count.

 

I don't even touch Space Junk... which is probably what gives the impression that I'm not around much. I also tend to avoid the paranoia/extremism/superstition Social Discussion forum....

I don't use chat because I don't idle on the forums to be honest...I'll come in and check some threads then go about my business at multiple times during the day

I'm sorry, but there's a difference between creating a couple threads in the spam board and totally and completely attacking someone. If you think think those are similar transgressions and thusly deserve similar punitive measures, I suggest you take a good hard look at what you consider to be right and wrong.

 

I agree. Either way you lokk at it, it a loss. I mean, come one! if you afend someone, you get banned (witch usually includes getting your acount taken away) and you can never really come back to forums. So why do it?

 

Henceforth, you get one warning then a ban.

No appeals.

Shape up or get out.
