Bought the dvd, arrives at mailbox and here we go... a blank DVD! My pc is an ASUS G1S and nothing wrong with it as all other DVDs are read with no hassle. I'm downloading the files from net at the moment, the download will stll take some hours. Not something i should have to do as i bought the DVD precisely to avoid this. Else i would just have bought a cd-key. NOT HAPPY WITH BLIZZARD!
When you say blank, do you just mean your computer won't read it? That could just be part of the copy protection, but your dvd drive has rejected the disc nonetheless. Another person on these forums had something similar happen, and said something like he cloned the disc to make a working one Or has it not been printed on the back with the logo either? That would be suspect.
That was me Jasmine :< I thought it was blank too because my drive read other discs. Just download clonecd and create an image file of the disc, then use daemontools to mount and use it. It will take long, but certainly a lot less time than downloading it. I attributed this to my drive being fairly old, so although this is a workaround, this is probably a sign that we should get new drives. Mine is at least 6 years old so I'm not complaining.
When i say blank i mean my pc can't read it and and asks to introduce a dvd on the drive. This is someting that doesnt happen with any of my other games, so i assume it's a problem with the DVD and not my DVD drive. Wich isn't that old. The download is almost over (one hour left) but anyway how could i create an image from a dvd that the PC doesn't recognize any files? (just in case something goes wrong with the download) Thanks
Because CloneCD reads more thoroughly. And yes, my drive didn't spin up the DVD and the PC thought the drive was empty. But hey, nobody's forcing you to solve the problem if you don't believe me.
Some things in the world will seem crazy if you refuse to understand them. If a commercial game disc appears blank, a likely reason is that your dvd drive does not recognise something in the file system. Creating a disc image is not the same thing as copying files. The imaging operation doesn't interact with the disc's file system, so does not run into any anomalies that are present in it. But if you intend to create an image of a commercial game disc, it's up to you to determine if that action is permitted by the copyright holders.
Hey, i was not saying that the person who suggested creating an image was crazy! I said i would do it in case something wrong with my download. Anyway downloaded version now installed and running.
I'm experiencing the same issues.... My computer doesn't see the content of the SC2 DVD. It just tells me that he recognize an empty DVD-ROM ??? However I'm perfectly able to read it in other computer so I copied the entire content on a 8GB memorystick and copied the content on my desktop to install the game. It worked fine... In the meantime I bought a new drive as I thought mine was too old but unfortunately this gives me exactly the same issue on the new drive. They are from different manufacturer ( ASUS and PIONEER ) and I've checked my drivers they are the same on the laptop so I really don't know what to do now... I will borrow friends DVD to see if the issue is the DVD itself and if not will post here... I'm happy that I can play without the DVD but I'm worried about future releases...
I tested friends SCII DVDs and I still have the same issue so nothing to do with the SCII DVD itself....
Sometimes a rootkit can be the cause of this. I was trying to remember this awesome rootkit finder (GMER), someone else posted it in another thread. Give it a shot and see if you have a rootkit!
