Hey guys, i've been dropped from multiplayer now about 15 times in the 2 days i've had this game, at first I thought it was my isp, I rang them and they told me my connection is fine and I havn't lost connection for a few days.
After close inspection, I notice I can instantly log back in, I can instantly browse the interwebs, my msn is still active and my housemate also hasn't dropped connection.

I've switched ports on my router, I run the game as administrator, my graphics settings cant go any lower.

Therefore battlenet doesn't like my connection. out of the 9 games i've lost, 8 were due to being dropped. It's very frustrating.

    Whats going on?

    dxdiag is too big so......

i updated my drivers from asus, started a 2v2 and got dropped 5mins later, I read all 8 pages of that thread too, yes it seems alot of people are having the same problem but not a single reply from anyone at blizzard.

Thats the thing with 1 payment games, they already got what they can out you so who cares if we have issues, even on their end.
Now if this was a pay to play... woulda been sorted last week.

I'll start by telling you exactly what Blizzard will tell you. First they will tell you to update your graphics drivers. Yeah, not a part of the issue, but they will tell you to do it anyway.

2nd, install your Realtek Audio driver. One of the current theories to the hitching/online issue is that the generic HD audio driver is using the CPU to do all the work. Installing your Realtek driver should offload that work to the audio chip where it belongs. May not help, certainly won't hurt.

You should also update from 32-bit Windows to 64-bit Windows. It's a free update, you just use the 64-bit install disc and your current product key. You have 6GB of system ram installed, only 3GB is getting used (the other 1GB (roughly) of the total 4GB limit is going to your video card).

Also, your BIOS is super outdated for your P5K-VM. Its the original bios, and the newer bios seem to add support for newer CPU's.

Also, you can try downloading a newer LAN driver for your Ethernet card.

Also, use the Intel Driver Update Utility to make sure your Intel drivers are up-to-date.

Let me know if any of that helped (or didn't) and we can start looking at other things. I would install the 64-bit OS before anything else though.

I'd like to say thanks for taking your time to solve my issue, but, after i downloaded all those drivers/updates, i installed realtek drivers, it then wanted to reboot my pc, after the reboot my pc crashed on startup several times, when windows finally started, i had no taskbar! and all my resolution/date and time settings were messed up.
    So i rebooted again.
But i still had messed up settings with no task bar...
i decided to do a system restore to before i installed the realtek drivers, but STILL i had no taskbar, I tried to run explorer.exe but nothing was happening.

i tried doing a startup repair but it says windows cant fix the issue.

Just my luck, i try to solve 1 problem and i end up creating 10 more.

    currently re-installing windows.

i might of had super outdated drivers but ive never had an issue with any other game or software. I wish i never bought this game now.

Ok its been a few days but ive finally done a clean install of 64 bit os, game still crashes on even medium settings so again will have to run on minimum settings (this is annoying btw).

Crashing aside, I STILL get randomly booted from battle.net even during vs AI and campaign mode.
I dare not try multiplayer till i can guarentee no disconnects..

Same old story, get dropped, can instantly log back in, can instantly open a browser, housemate isnt losing connection.

**Note** I've tried numerous ways to update the bios, including renaming the .rom file and loading on a FAT formatted flash drive, Asus EZ flash detects the file, but after checking it, it doesnt reconise it...

What you got for me Xev?

First off, biggest thing I am seeing is you are running old nVidia drivers. The newest for your configuration can be found here.

    Newest Realtek drivers.

As for the BIOS, I'm looking into that. I have no idea WTF there isn't a Windows BIOS flasher for your motherboard.

*Edit* I found the Windows 64-bit version of the AMI flasher. I have uploaded it here. If it succeeds, restart after it has flashed, and enter the BIOS and reset it to default settings.

I've updated the nvidia and realtek drivers, thanks for pointing that out, I swear I got the latest ones but I guess I rushed it and got the wrong ones.

Now, the bios, I'm not very clued up on the process of updating the bios so i did a little researching, it seems its a very risky thing to do because if ANYTHING goes wrong, it will kill my motherboard, so the questions are....
is it vital I do this update?
what will improve with the update?
    will the disconnects stop?

Do you know of any step by step guides to using the afuwin64?

I'll wait for a reply before I try this, I'll also have a few hours on starcraft to see if anything has improved with the new driver updates.

*EDIT* had a few hours doing the campaign, disconnected 4 times total from around 3 hours play, still have to run on low settings or the client will crash.

So from running a 32 bit os with outdated drivers and settings to a clean 64 bit os with up to date drivers and settings, the change is..... NOTHING!
(yeah ok, still have outdated bios, but c'mon lets face it, that has nothing to do with random disconnects from the client)
I'll attach and updated dxdiag just incase i missed something.

Now that the game is running, yeah, I would ignore the BIOS update. While it can be risky, so long as you don't loose power while flashing a BIOS, things are normally fine. The utility won't let you flash the wrong bios anymore, which takes a lot of the risk out of what can happen. As for a guide in using the Windows tool, all you need to do is load it, and its a Windows GUI. You select the ROM file (I wouldn't use the newest beta BIOS) and it should flash fine. So long as the system stays stable, I'd leave the BIOS as is.

As for the connection, I found an older Vista 64 driver. Give it a shot just for giggles if the newer driver doesn't help. Here is the newest driver for your network card. If you have to find the driver from the root site, 88E8056 is the model number of your LAN card.

So your brother, who is on the same network, his game is working fine and no disconnects for him still? Who configured your router, you or your brother? I get the feeling your brother a) is in the DMZ b) has manually set the DNS on his computer. When multiple computers are playing the same game across the same router, the router itself (Make and model) may make a difference. I'd setup port triggering instead so both machines would get the ports as needed.

It could also be a difference in LAN hardware. Give the newest driver a shot first, see if it does anything.

Try running http://www.d3tr.de/ to different servers, like www.google.com or something while your doing things and while you try to play a game of starcraft.

If you run it for a few hours and theres no packet loss or anything weird or you play some other game besides starcraft and its fine, and then you play starcraft, then you can be sure that its a bug in the game and not your comp. And you can always save the images to show Blizzard if you get through or post on their forums.

I'll need to do some more research about a bios update and for now I'll leave as is.

I'll give it a shot, no harm in trying I guess, I'll let you know what the results are.

My brother? I never mentioned I had a brother lol, my 'housemate' doesn't play starcraft either, she plays 'Inworlds' or something like that. and her connection is fine, the whole isp connection is fine on my end as far as I can tell, like I said, I can instantly log back in starcraft and can instantly load up the interwebs.
As for router (DLINK / DSL - 264OR (provided by Virgin Media (UK)) configuration, I don't believe it has been configured. No clue what what port triggering is tbh, but only my computer runs starcraft.

    I'll try it now

I'm downloading some information on you router (I'm assuming that its the D-Link 2640R (zero, not the letter o) since its the only one I can find. Its a DSL router). Once I have the information, I may be able to talk you threw port forwarding on it...

I don't know why I thought you had a brother... I guess I've been reading way to many threads. @_@

I found instructions on port forwarding on your router for Starcraft II the game.

These are the ports you need to forward for the downloader/patcher (which you can prob skip since that seems to work just fine for you).

I wager that the new LAN driver prob won't help that much/at all. I would try forwarding the ports on your router.

Just ran 2 missions (over an hours gameplay) and no disconnects! that's after I installed the new lan driver. Not getting my hopes up though, ill want to see consistancy before I deem it fixed.

I'll look into that port forwarding now.

**EDIT** Ports are now setup, that guide was great, ill get some more game time in later today and let you know what happens.

Thanks for helping out Xev, greatly appreciate it.

Well, you tracert'ed google UK.. you'll have to try the the EU battle.net server...

EU battle.net server is "eu.logon.battle.net". My other idea is one I always do for gaming, in the router I change the default MTU size from 1500 to 1492. Is is so packets don't have to be downsized for legacy Ethernet networks that are still using the 1492 packet size settings.

my default was set at 1432, i changed it to 1492 as u suggested, didnt make any difference though, i still get dropped atleast once every 2 games. I'm beyond frustrated at this, I've done absolutley everything you have suggested and nothing has changed.

I know your proberbly bored with me now Xev, but is there anything else i can do or can i finally say this is on blizzards end?

I know for a fact i'm not the only guy who gets constantly dropped

Could always try plugging directly into your internet connection. If you stay connected longer, then it may be the routers fault. :/
