I am looking for a collaborator for a prequel campaign entitled StarCraft: Guild Wars. The idea is that we will write a script before SC2 is released, and organise a team of mappers and artists once the script is completed. The campaign will consist of 10 missions and will be told primarily from the perspective of those states that resisted the Confederacy (Kel-Morian Combine and Korhal) during the Guild Wars and its immediate aftermath.

If you're interested, send me a private message. The only requirements are 1) that you have a decent grasp of the English language and 2) you are a StarCraft fan familiar with the lore.

Here's a brief summary of the 4 final missions:

    Mission 7: Korhal Rising
Senator Mengsk declares Korhal’s independence from the Confederacy. The Confederacy, in turn, imposes martial law. Riots ensue. Many rioters are killed dispassionately by Confederate forces: urban warfare breaks out in the capital, Styrling.

Mission 8: Death Comes For The Senator
The campaign briefly switches perspective to that of the Confederates. Doctor Rumm briefs a trio of ghosts tasked with the assassination of Senator Angus Mengsk. Among the trio is Sarah Kerrigan, the future Queen of Blades.

‘’You will show Korhal that Senator Mengsk signed not a constitution but his own death sentence’’
    --Dr. Rumm

‘’I know why you have come. Shoot, coward, you are only going to kill a man’’
    --Senator Mengsk’s last words

    Cutscene: The Troubles
A UNN propaganda report on the History of ‘The Troubles’ on Korhal.

Mission 9: The Reclamation of Korhal
Two years after his father's assassination, Arcturus Mengsk's guerilla war culminates in the expulsion of Confederate forces from Korhal.

‘’We smuggled this tank in from Umoja, piece by piece by piece.’’
    --Arcturus Mengsk

Mission 10: To Reap The Whirlwind
The Confederacy, in response to the 2nd rebellion of Korhal, initiates Operation Apocalypse in order to ensure their hegemony over the Koprulu sector. Sarah Kerrigan and a team of ghosts infiltrate Korhal in order to sabotage the colony’s ballistic shield. Upon completing their mission, Sarah Kerrigan is betrayed and abandonned on the doomed planet.

I'm just a StarCraft fan looking to collaborate on a custom campaign with other fans (no, I'm not a Blizzard employee)

I am still looking for a collaborator... Over 400 people have seen this thread, yet I've only received one offer... I'm not here to judge; I simply want to collaborate with another individual (preferably who is 16 or 17+). If you want to collaborate on a campaign, message me!

I thought this site had creative writers haunting it? It would seem that we are a dying breed.

Indeed, creative writing has died: Activity in the Community Writing Challenge thread in The Arts is somewhere around .1%.

I'd love to help, but my writing "skills" aren't any good. But if you need somebody to come up with mission concepts once the story is thought out: I'm in.

That's sad. Hopefully it will be revitalised once SC2 releases.

Aurora, your assistance will be very welcome when the time comes: I trust I can message you then? I'll be writing the script on my own, it seems.

I am writing the script for fans who are familiar with the main points of the story (so there will be some surprises) but those without any knowledge of the Guild Wars will not be neglected. Various characters and events from the novels will be incorporated, such as Dr Rumm. Presently, I'm working out the story's arc and what events and characters I should include in order to maximise the impact of the plot.

I would like to take this opportunity to expound on why I feel a Guild Wars campaign is pertinent:

    1) It is an engaging narrative.
    2) I feel that Mengsk's character arc in StarCraft was too short to do him justice.
    3) A Guild Wars campaign, when played as a prequel to the original game, will fletch out certain themes from the StarCraft Universe, such as 'Terran conflict' and also better illustrate the Confederacy's power and legacy.
    4) My dearest hope is that this campaign will be played as a prequel to the inexorable remake of the original StarCraft for SC2, and that this prequel campaign will bring players and fans to a better understanding and appreciation for the overall story arc and characters (particularly Mengsk and Kerrigan and their relationship).

Sure. Message me any time you want.

Also: I agree with your second argument in particular. The story of Mengsk could (and should!) have been expanded further. But there was of course a limit to the amount of missions back then. :/

Seriously, people should do this stuff because they like it. Not because of some forum currency bs. :/

QFT. Sadly, I am much too busy being lazy to ever help long enough with a project to see it through to the end. I just get so excited until the part that nobody wants to do comes up.

Lads, you seem to be posting here fairly frequently; tell me, what would you expect/want from a prequel campaign? I'd like to know... What key events should be included? What characters would you like to see? How long would you expect the campaign to be? Personally, I'd like to have 2 campaigns of 10 missions, however, I'm not sure if that is feasible, so I am currently planning a single campaign of 10 missions: 2 campaigns would most likely result in repetition and melodrama, although I'd love to prove myself wrong on that point.

Depending on how much dialogue you have, two campaigns with 5 missions each should be plenty. I'll think about the other stuff for a while. Really busy at the moment.

I'm a pretty good writer, passed both AP exams for English if that means anything lol.

But seriously I can write, and I used to mess with both the SC and WC3 map editors although it has been awhile.

    Count me in.

Excellent! I look forward to collaborating with you, SuccaMC...

Presently, this project is still very much in an embryonic stage, and we will be planning out what events and characters should (or can be) included. As I mentionned before, I would like to elaborate on Mengsk's character arc, flesh out the Mengsk-Kerrigan relationship by touching on Kerrigan's past, and generally imbue the player with a greater appreciation for StarCraft's themes.

You are fairly familiar with the Guild Wars lore? If not, http://starcraft.wikia.com will fill you in on the essentials. Also, it might be a good idea to find yourself a copy of "I, Mengsk".

While I would enjoy writing a 10 missions campaign for both the Confederacy and their antagonists, I am not entirely convinced that the drama would remain poignant. Thus, we are (currently) planning on a single campaign to encompass the dramatic narrative. Now, we begin... I'd like to hear your thoughts on the following:

    1) What events and Characters ought to be included in this campaign?
I feel that the main event of the Guild Wars was the Korhal incident, and any prequel campaign cannot avoid that catastrophe. My 10th mission (entitled 'To Reap The Whirlwind') serves both as the denouement and climax of the campaign.

    2) For the sake of continuity, the ''player'' should not be a main character. Who then should he/she be?
I feel that the ''player'' should be a Captain who fought against the Confederacy, and subsequently assisted the rebels on Korhal. This character should remain nameless and faceless, just like the player's ''character'' in the original StarCraft.

And here's the story thus far. Please note that nothing is set in stone, and that it is very much a work in progress. Once we have expounded on the actual events that will be showcased in this campaign, we will begin to flesh out the characters by writing a comprehensive script.

    Mission 1:
The player's character is tasked with countering the offensive of a highly ingenious Confederate Colonel. The end of this mission reveals that this Colonel is none other than Colonel Arcturus Mengsk of the Confederacy. And yes, Mengsk will appear in-game.

*** *** *** (Any ideas to fill the gap would be appreciated)

    Mission 6: Korhal Rising
Senator Mengsk declares Korhal’s independence from the Confederacy. The Confederacy, in turn, imposes martial law. Riots ensue. Many rioters are killed dispassionately by Confederate forces: urban warfare breaks out in the capital, Styrling.

Mission 7: Death Comes For The Senator
The campaign briefly switches perspective to that of the Confederates. Doctor Rumm briefs a trio of ghosts tasked with the assassination of Senator Angus Mengsk. Among the trio is Sarah Kerrigan, the future Queen of Blades.

“The Senator's strength is Korhal's weakness: he is irreplaceable. He will be quieted, and with him --the rabble; you will show Korhal that Senator Mengsk signed not a constitution but his own death sentence’’
    --Dr. Rumm

“I know why you have come. Shoot, coward, you are only going to kill a man’’
    --Senator Mengsk’s last words

Following Senator Mengsk's assassination, the interim government quits en masse, leaving a handful of Senators loyal to the Confederacy; the planet is on the verge of civil war. The remaining Senators invite the Confederates to reestablish order.

    Cutscene: The Troubles
A UNN report on the History of ‘The Troubles’ on Korhal, covering the beginning of the rebellion in 2478 to the present day movement led by the vigilante Arcturus Mengsk, son of former senator Angus Mengsk. The report is nothing but a Confederate propaganda piece that denigrates the legitimacy of the Rebellion. [It should be quite fun to write this]

    Mission 8: The Reclamation
Two years after his father's assassination, Arcturus Mengsk's guerilla war culminates in the expulsion of Confederate forces from Korhal.

‘’We smuggled these tanks in from Umoja, piece by piece by piece.’’
    --Arcturus Mengsk

    Mission 9: The Old Families
Not all of Korhal rejoices at Mengsk's victory. The Old Families, led by Nicholas D'Arbanville, unite to oust the new government and call on the Confederacy to assist them.

“This conflict is a matter between the citizens of The Republic of Korhal.”
“Republic of ...! Look here: I have not come to negotiate. Korhal is a Confederate colony, and this regards the Confederacy.”
“Understand this, General: your forces will not land on our planet. Even if you do break through the considerable defences facing you -- listen well, General: should a single Confederate soldier set foot on Korhal, I will fire our nuclear arsenal on Tarsonis.”
    --Mengsk and a Confederate General

Mission 10: To Reap The Whirlwind
The Confederacy, in response to the 2nd rebellion of Korhal and an impending alliance between the fledgling Republic and the Umojan Protectorate, initiates Operation Apocalypse to ensure their hegemony over the Koprulu sector. Sarah Kerrigan and a team of ghosts infiltrate Korhal in order to sabotage the colony’s ballistic shield.

Now I'm actually getting quite enthusiastic about this story thing. Sadly, it's not really my strong side to write stuff of my own. Let alone incorporate anything into a story which has already started. :/

By the way: wouldn't it be much cooler to make this with Starcraft 2? It seems that the old game is having serious issues with the latest Windows generation. No idea if it will ever be properly fixed.

That's the idea, Aurora; there will, inexorably, be a remake of the original StarCraft campaigns, and this particular campaign is supposed to be the prequel. I am planning this campaign for SC2: once the script is complete, I will be looking for good game and map designers (such as yourself), artists to do a few cut-scenes (real cut-scenes, not just in-game stuff) and some other artwork. If I feel that the end-result is good enough (which it will be, if we have a good team), I plan on contacting Glynnis Talken to voice Kerrigan; Kerrigan will only have a few lines, so it shouldn't be too expensive. Not to mention, having Talken voice Kerrigan should be a huge draw: I can't be the only fan dissapointed that she was cut from SC2.

Here are a couple of Kerrigan's in-game quotes:

"24 here" (When selected; Kerrigan was known as Ghost 24)
"Obedience... or oblivion!" (When ordered to move. This quote is a reference to a SC novel)
"Only for you I make the guns sing" (When ordered to attack a target)
