hi there have you ever tried using Hydralsiks and Ultralisks against protoss? because i think it just OWNS protoss xD is that strategy used often with pro players too? or is there any way for protoss to counter it?
Hi yes I make use of it quite often, not a pro though . Counter for it would be a healthy unit mix for the protoss. Voidrays and colossi does well just have to micro them well, like have colossi walk up cliffs and kite the ultralisk and stay behind your meat shield of units made up of immortals/zealots/stalkers. Immortal do well against them too. I also think that I did some test and pop for pop hydralisks don't beat immortals (althought they beat them resource wise) but I could be wrong I don't recall 100%. Edit: I said thor instead of immortal @_@
It's a great mix, no doubt about that. But it can be somewhat countered by immortals and colossi, with just a few zealots up front so the immortals don't instantly die to hydralisks. Also, if you don't flank then it's possible for the whole protoss army to just back up a little bit to separate your fast ultralisks from the slow hydralisks and just pick apart your army one bit at a time.
Its a nice set up vs colossi/stalker and the dreaded mmm ball. Take a while to tech up sadly,, also a few zerglings mixed in is normaly a idea.
No way! you make that startegy seem so.. Bad !!!! xD but i finally found a good way to beat the colossus-stalker thingy wich i've been having problems with lately
Well yeah, it's absolutely amazing against stalker + colossi mixes, but you definitely need to flank with the ultralisks. One game I played, I did exactly that mix of ultralisks and hydralisks, and when I tried to defend my expo with my 6 ultras and 30 hydras against his mass of stalkers and colossi, he just backed away slightly and wailed on my ultralisks, so I lost two of them and had to retreat before I lost more. After a bit more posturing and pot shots to whittle down my ultralisks even more, I decided to run my ultras around a huge loop to flank. Of course in the meantime he pushed forward and took out my expo, but right as he was about to retreat my ultras showed up from behind, while my hydras attacked from the front. I still find it hard to believe how much of a difference that flank made. His whole army was dead within 8 seconds, and he instantly gg'd because I still had all my hydras and even a few low hp ultralisks left.
nice but i haven't tried that flanking strategy yet.. i usually just press attack-move right into his army XD (i dont think thats a good idea tbh.. but its much easier) ^^ so maybe i should try flanking next time :3 *meh*
Dont do 1v1 much, so havent tested out any of the zerg lategame units against T or P, but I always feel hive tech takes too long to get to, considering im always trying to use my resources to hold off attacks or build up forces. Now if only ultras could move while burrowed...
If Ultras could move while burrowed, they should add a strategy/ability where the Ultras can make a solid line of just a deep hole where no units, except for Air units/Colossi can traverse. It'd be too much like the forceshield of the Sentry, but you would be able to stop your opponent from easily getting to your base temporarily. idk.. lol
