Um.... Once you get lair tech you can research it at any hatchery, top right.

To burrow you need to dig a hole and proceed to cover yourself with dirt. ^_^ moving underground while burrowed takes more effort and advanced technique

Why did they make it so you needed a Lair anywho?

So Roaches couldn't abuse an early burrow? Even with their upgrades at the Warren needing a Lair?

Yes, because tier 1 roaches would be OP with their insane burrowed regen.

Roaches are the obvious answer, but I'm not sure they are the right one.

Try imagining this situation: someone research "rushes" to burrow and banelings, and morphs a few outside of your base. They then run in a small attack force at your workers. Of course you micro your workers to safety, but they leave behind the banelings burrowed in your resource line.

Without detection your choices suddenly suck, don't they?

"left behind" zerglings (to become banelings) like this can be effective enough without burrow, but with burrow..../shudder

No, roaches are the right one. Early on you could just individually burrow roaches that are about to die, and then unburrow them at the end of the fight when they are full hp. You might as well not be able to attack them... would be like tier 1 dark templar.

I agree...you can't leave roaches with these abilities too early on. They would become super overpowered.

I don't know if I'd go as far as to say they would be like a tier 1 dark templar, but pretty freakin close.
