I was wondering, what kind of drug was stim pack anyway?

Little thought was given and I might have found something.

Is Stim Pack a rafined drug that comes from the Zergling Adrenal Gland? More speed, more attack speed.

Maybe the confederacy that was studying the Zerg race found some usefullness to them, espacially to enhanced their army.

    What do you think?

I believe that the stim pack was just some anti-biotics mixed with some steroids.

I'm likely wrong though, so you should wait for a few more responses.

It's more likely an advanced form of PCP, eliminate any feeling to pain, and makes you go crazy =D

And the effect to your brain is like getting a body builder to throw a large hammer at you head, and so the 10 health lost

Ritalin, Dexedrine, PCP amphetamines. You know that kinda thing.

Side effects are minor and may include loss of sleep, bad withdrawal and in severe cases even death

Death?, you can't use it after you fallen under 11 HP.

So if you try again you get to hear a weird sound that tells your subconscious that you can't do it. Weird buzz always wins.

    Not gameplay-wise, but lore-wise.

    1. It's a joke on drug comercials
    2. If you are in a situation where you need to use stim pack at least some of the marines are gonna get ripped/blown in half

    @ Option #2, Agreed

@GMG : If gameplay wise was like lore wise. You can now select all your marines at once and by accident hit Stimpack 4 times and.... you've created a new religion of mass suicide by hard drugs.

    Straight from Starcraft-wiki:

"The Stim Pack is an in-field chemical delivery system filled with a variety of stimulants.

This means that the drugs would be some sort of non-lethal (relatively speaking) combination of endorphins, pain-numbers, and other things similar to modern-day stimulants (amphetamines, caffeine, cocaine, etc.) Obviously since this is set in the future, they would be optimized for battle.

Thank you ninerman13, I would have prefered if Terrans took this "technology" from Zerg, just to add more links between the races. I'll go with Starcraft Wiki
    Thanks

The terrans had the StimPacks before they started fighting the zerg. Honestly, taking it from zerg would rip off some of the Aliens comic storylines (and in a bad way).

I can certainly picture futuristic drug addicted military. They take people who have been jailed for drug offenses and put them on the front lines. Sounds sort of like a decaying society, which is what it, in fact, was.

I'm not sure because Steroids are kinda long term effect and the marines get damaged using them so it canèt be anti-biotics so it could be something else. (Just letting you know)

My guess is high doses of some sort of chemical than enhacnes the marine or HIGH CONCENTRATED Taurine and stuff like that. (Just like in energy drinks)

Edit: Ok just remembered. The drugs could be made from some chemical that increases the muscle making it similar to the Zerglings. Take in mind that Terran Study zerg and their insides. So the idea could have been inspired from that ability.

The manual doesn't say anything about stims enhancing muscle mass.

Only the novel Shadow of the Xel'Naga says so.

Just to correct a few things:

    1) Stims were available before the Zerg, so they were not inspired by them.
    2) Antibiotics simply kill bacteria - they would not have any effect on the toughness/strength/speed of a Terran.

A drug such as a stim pack is actually not too far-fetched, even in today's real world.

what about stimpacks increasing your metabolism, that would explain the speed, and since they cant eat enough to be sustained in the heat of battle, the stomach fluids go all acid on the stomach, thus explaining the damage

Increasing your metabolism would make the you need MORE food/water, not less. It's got to increase speed and reflexes by other physiological means - perhaps by increasing nervous system response times (a compound that could trigger ion channels faster in the sensory and peripheral nerves), increase endorphins and adrenaline in the body (create a 'happy' feeling while at the same time increasing awareness and responses), and numbing pain.
