I was wondering if there was anyway that 2 people using the same internet connection would be able to play in the same game online with starcraft 2 since their is no lan. perhaps getting a second ip from the internet provider. please help.....
First off, are both computers shared connected to the internet using a router (if yes, what make and model #)? 2nd, have you purchased two copies of StarCraft II?
Yes we have 2 copies of star craft 2 and the router is a linksys the model # is wrt54g2 v1. We have tried playing the original star craft online but connection is really laggy which makes it impossible to play. I wasn't sure if since star craft 2 has no lan if they made another way for multiple computers in the same household using the same connection would be able to play together online thanks for the reply.
If StarCraft I is laggy too, then you need to setup port triggering for either game. The difference between triggering and forwarding the ports is that triggering will work for any machine on the network. StarCraft 1 requires triggering to work right. StarCraft 2 should work fine as long as Universal Plug and Play are enabled, but if it is and you still can't make it work, triggering should fix things. This is a guide to setting up port triggering on your router. Here are the ports you'll want to trigger: I'm pretty sure with port triggering you don't need to specify UDP and TCP, both should be done automatically. StarCraft 1: port 6112-6112 StarCraft 2 requires the following ports be forwarded... TCP Ports 1119, 1120 and 3724 TCP Ports 6881 - 6999 UDP port 1119 ...so I would trigger them like this: 1119-1120 3724-3724 6881-6999 That should let any computer (at the same time) play either SC1 or SC2 at the same time. I had to setup triggering for StarCraft 1 too.. back in 2002.
Me and my roomate have 2 copies of SC2 and share an internet connection via a D-Link router. We have no prob running SC2, u just have to invite ur friend via B-net and you guys can play with each other. Now as far as the lag goes what kind of bandwidth are you allocated? cuz if your internet connection is slow to begin with you will lag with 2 people using the same connection because it splits the bandwidth.
Its a completely different situation with the D-Link router. The D-Links seem to support Universal Plug and Play better.. from what I can tell.. I don't know why.
thanks for the help we actually don't have 2 copies but we were wanting to know whether or not their would be lag before we bought a second copy. i will try the port forwarding but what i was told was that port forwarding can only be used on one computer kind of like a phone call if someone is using then no else can. so if i setup my computer for the port forwarding then my friends wont be able to port forward as well. cause you have to set the ip address of which computer you want the router to port forward to. hope I'm making sense not totally new to port forwarding but not a pro either. so if i set my router to port forward those ports then we should be able to play on b.net without lag when we are in the same game? and if we can't then a good suggestion would be to upgrade our internet speed? If we did happen to upgrade the internet speed and still had the same problem then would getting a D-link router help fix the problem as well? I tested my internet connection at speedtest.net my download speed was 12Mbps upload speed was 2.2Mbps and the ping was 74ms.
My bad, i forgot the link to a guide on port triggering for your router. Port triggering works for ALL machines behind the router. So do that instead of port forwarding. I wouldn't get a D-Link router, never in a million years. D-Link has had issues in the past of not closing firmware "security holes" for.. I dunno, what was it? 4-5... 8 years? Triggering should work fine. Use a guest key and install it on the other machine to test it before getting another copy. Oh yeah, when you go to get that 2nd copy: Kmart has it for $40. I wonder if its like that in store? That is, if your in the US.
This raithe just new name had problems logging onto forum So the difference between port forwarding and port triggering is that port forwarding only allows access to one ip address but port triggering allows all pc's using the router to use those ports? any suggestions if we get the trial and still have problems? i am going to download the trial tonight and see if port triggering works. thanks for all your help again. ill keep you updated if it works or not.
Why are you downloading it? Do you not have a disc or have it downloaded on the other machine? It's the same files, so why not copy them from another machine if you downloaded them? I mean they are networked right? I somehow doubt you would have issues after port trigger, but you can always look into a firmware update from Linksys for your router to improve its performance. Are are 3rd party firmwares that you might be able to try too. Could always test a battle.net came of StarCraft 1 to see if that smooths out after trigging the port. My experience is... it will. I was under the impression that you already had tired StarCraft 2 and had issues. StarCraft 1 and StarCraft 2 connect to the internet in very different ways, and StarCraft 2 will automatically open ports if universal Plug and Play (uPnP) is enabled on the router(and it should be unless you turned it off). Port triggering may not be necessary. StarCraft 1 came around during dialup, when networking via private network routers wasn't.. common at all, hence it not supporting uPnP.
