Yes, another thread about the AI. I felt like this just doesn't belong in the other thread I just made. So what's this one about? Well, it's all about pathing. Or at least what the cpu seems to think is pathing. It's really starting to get annoying by now. The cpu always uses exactly the same stupid tactics in Starcraft, and it doesn't even try to adjust. For example: take any of your favourite 4 vs 4 maps and eradicate 2 of the opponents. Or just fill only 1 cpu slot if you're not up for a challenge. After that, take the expansion closest to your still remaining opponent and watch what happens. Over and over and over again, the cpu will just send in a single worker unit to attempt building/warping/morphing a new main building. It's pathetic and laughable. Why is it so hard to use a Transport to drop one behind the base, or at another location at the map? Or another situation. I've blocked off all exits at the set paths the cpu seems to use, and the opponent seems to just stop doing anything. Like it's waiting to be killed or something. So I send in a couple of Scourges to scout the mineral line. Still plenty of Drones there. But then suddenly dozens and dozens of Hydralisks pop up out of the ground. WHAT THE HELL. There's only a few Sunken colonies and two Ultralisks at each choke point. I did this on purpose to allow the cpu to just fly over me, or attack me instead of sending a Drone every few minutes. But noting happened, apart from it being in an endless loop of making Hydralisks. --- So why this rant? Well, because this sucks. Also, even Warcraft III has this problem. So before posting my own expectations for the pathing in Wings of Liberty: What are you guys expecting/wanting? Good pathing and an AI that finds new routes. Do you think it will happen, and how?
Good thread ! Blizzard said that there will be level of difficulties. Or am I wrong ? I've read somewhere that there will be levels of difficulties in playing against the CPU. So if you are bored of an annoying CPU just raise the difficulty and it'll be ok. NORMALLY .... The CPU doesn't even escape the Terran flying structures from my attacks. Or is just, as you said, waiting to be killed. I also know that now in SC2 the CPU will automatically give up once it knows that the game is over when it 'understands' there is nothing more to do to win or just gain advantages. The CPU will write "GG". I remember a game I played some years ago. Me, Terran, vs one Protoss. I just built one barrack and some marines. 10 minutes had past and the CPU sent Dark Templars. As the CPU noticed I had no Turret or nothing to detect cloaked enemies it sent DT to me, and won the game. So with all we've seen already about this game we haven't seen a replay of a game between players and CPUs so we can't judge the game now. I mean a game between one player and one CPU for example. I want the very intelligent CPU, smart and strategic one. But frankly I doubt about this point ... I don't think it will happen. With all we've seen about SC2 it is like SC1 but in 3D. The game is not finished yet. Blizzard should be more precise on this question. OUT OF SUBJECT : Is it possible now in SC2 to play 2 CPUs + me vs 3 CPUs on a 3 vs 3 map ?
You can do that in pretty much every rts nowadays, and also in Warcraft 3. So I would be very strange if such a thing won't be possible. And uhm, that opening sentence is a bit gay man. xD
just edited it ! I remember when I played to custom map in Homeworld 2. You could choose the level of difficulty of your enemy and the level of power of your allied AI (CPU) It would be great if SC2 includes some stuff like this. It is very annoying to get obliged to fight against CPU and not be able to ally some of them to fight against others.
That's confirmed to be included. The point of this topic was to discuss how the AI finds its way around the map, but I guess nobody cares. :/ Oh well. Back to playing Homeworld 2 then. Have you tried any mods? I recommend that you try the FX: Commanders mod made by the 9ccn team. And Homeworld Complex, which I like to call Homeworld 3. It's just that good.
We can't answer to your question because I think there is no answer yet. No official ones. I tried to do. I don't know the power of the AI. Well, about Homeworld 2 I played with this game maybe ..... 1,5 or 2 years ago already .... I am interested in playing the latest one that I ignored the existence. thanks to have informed me.
Maybe just randomly instead of the built-in AI, it should connect remotely to an expert Chinese player hired by Blizzard just to give you a surprise Eric
