Hey! I've recently started learning java, and my tinkering has turned into a full-blown game. What I need your guys' help with is making maps, as well as any other part of it that you think you could contribute to. Basically, its going to be a turn based strategy game set in the slight future. it's glaringly obvious that I will need to massively revamp the graphics if this project is to get anywhere. Anyone who helps will be given the appropriate credit for what they did. The most important of these graphics are (based on the order of importance)- 1:The Intro scene a: The background b: Icons that will be put in the dark portion of the gradient. The 5 I need are: I:Versus II:Campaign III:Boot Camp/Intro IV:Custom Levels V :Level Editor 2:The units just 1 gif that displays the units, no rotation as of now 3:Tile Markers These should be slightly transparant and indicate where the unit can a:Move b:Attack 4:The Panels: aanel seperators banels themselves - textures You can also just give me some temporary color suggests for anything in this screenshot (Panels to something other than black/blue, change unit stats around, add data to the upper panel) You get the idea Quick note - I appreciate any help you may or may not want to provide, but I don't want any help programming unless I ask something, this is something I made for fun, and will provide source code if anyone wants it, but it's basically something that I'm doing for practice since my school doesn't offer java programming as a class. I will need help making AI though, so help along those lines will be greatly appreciated. List of units you could make : Marine Conflagrate Infantry - flame thrower infantry Medic Rocket Infantry Sniper Scout - Jeep with a mounted machine gun Titan - Anti - air tank Transport - APC Combat Tank - Normal, single barreled tank STS Missile Tank - Tank with a missile launcher as its main arnament Heavy Tank - double barreled tank Shuttle - Chinook Helicopter - Apache Fighter - Dog Fighter, anti - air Bomber Cruiser - Capital Ship, immensely powerful Guided Bomb - Missile Nuclear Missile Turret - Basic Turret, base with a mounted turret Wall - Wall. 'nouff said If you can find firing sound effects for any of these units, that'd be a tremendous help. I'll also accept music suggestions. Thanks!
Expect some sort of City tileset from me, and possibly a City map. I'm going to go ahead and assume you want the tiles to have the same quality as the above, as well as the same style. For units, what kind of style and quality?
Which is why I'm asking the community if anyone actually has some experience and could make a better one. @AtMe It would be cool if the tiles looked the same, but it really isn't a necessity. Since the city tileset would be different than the grass one, you would basically never see one with the other. For units, I really have no preference as long as they are sorta in the same style. You can make them any size, but just remember than they will rescale back to 40x40, so it would be best to keep the length & width of the image equal.
The theme is a battle on a 2050 AD earth type of thing. Just think of a terran marine as your main model, and then give it different weapons / armor colors. It would be best to work on these: Conflagrate Infantry - flamethrower Medic - Heal Sniper - sniper rifle You could also try doing one of these: STS Missile Tank - Tank with long range missiles Scout - Motorcycle/ Jeep with twin machine guns Raider - Humvee with twin rocket launchers. Here is a marine/tank I've made.
yo, Ursa, not sure if you're still working on this or not, but if you are, it'd be cool if you could give me an approximate time when you'll be done. Anyone else is still welcome to make a map, which I'll then run through the engine and post the results of. By the way, here's the current build. (As you can see, i'm terrible at drawing units) (Click for better quality)
Thanks, kuvasz, looks pretty good. I might use it and just replace the background with something more interesting. Now that I look back at my first post, it's kinda obvious that if anyone will help make maps, I'll have to provide some sort of level editor. Anyone have any suggestions on that sort of thing/how it should work?
