Ok, so i got a legit SC2 beta key. installed starcraft 2 beta and played it for several weeks. Now the beta is closed it tells me that its best to unistall the beta prior to launch of the retail version. I got windows 7 64bit....so (as always) i go into control panel and look under installed programs.....nope...no uninstall. I look in start menu....nope no unistall. I look inside the starcraft 2 folder...nope no unistall. I look inside my users folder....nope no unistall. What the heck??? why would the beta install without also installing an unistall for the goddam thing???? someone please help....i dont wanna wake up on Tuesday and realise that the beta will interefere with the installation of the retail version. If someone can give me a link to where the uninstall is that'll be great...otherwise i guess im gonna have to delete the entire SC2 beta folder as a last resort.
Click Start. Click Control Panel. Click Add/Remove Programs. BAM Alternatively. Use Revo Uninstaller. It is awesomesauce.
as i said, that was the first place i went. start-control panel-add/remove programs ...its not even listed. I tried searching for anything containing the word starcraft, SC, or even blizzard and nope...nothing is there. very strange....
You said your key was legit but what about your copy? Is it an official Blizzard download from Battle.net?
now that u mention it....im not really sure. i checked the file again and its named 'StarCraft_2_Beta_enUS' with the official blizzard tornado symbol on it. Other than that i dunno what else to check to see if its legit. Then again, even if it wasnt, why would it leave out only the uninstall? everything else works for the beta including the auto updates, map editor, replays, etc etc.... ive even checked the registry and SC2 entries are all over the place pointing to my install folder as the source of the files.
Okay then. I was just suspecting a version that someone tampered with for whatever reason. These programmes usually don't install/embed themselves/uninstall to make USB-stick use easy, etc. Then I don't know what went wrong with your copy.
I just downloaded Revo Uninstaller since I'm having the same issue as the OP, but I'm not really sure how to use it :S
Get CCleaner, go to the 'Tools' tab, and uninstall the beta. After you do this, go to the 'Registry' tab and 'scan for issues'. Fix the issues. If the beta doesn't show up on the list of programs, then just delete the folder.
Controll panel You daft man, is it in the programs list under the control panel. I just uninstalled it from there using that method. did you look at all the S's??
On OS X (my imac) I just trashed the folder with all the SC2 beta files on it. Then I installed SC2 retail on my hard drive from the dvd and that worked just fine. So I think trashing the SC2 beta folder is your best bet. And I checked around and the beta does not leave any little hidden files anywhere you need to worry about.
