i realize that there have already probably been a couple threads like this but there probably wont be another one like it for at least a year so i think its ok we know that heart of the swarm is coming eventually and with it new multi player content most likely including new units and abilities also im guessing the focus will probably be on the zerg since that will also be the focus of the campaign, since people have complained zerg dont have much variety i think it would be fun to speculate on some new units. im calling a comeback of the lurker with two completly new units and hopefully dark swarm for the infestor what do you think? im not very creative and id like to hear some ideas for completely new zerg units.
I don't know about 3 new units for the Zerg, i'm guessing a possible lurker return, personally I would love to see a sort of crawling zergling, it's like a zergling with some graphical change. It can climb up walls and leap and such, I think that would be really cool.
why not 3 new units? brood war brought 2 new units to zerg and terran and 3 new units to protoss and with the next installment being zerg based it seems entirely plausible if not probable
Because if Zerg got 3 new units in their expansion then Protoss would have to get 3 new units in their expansion and then Terran would have to... oh wait, Terran doesn't have an expansion because they have the main game. So people are guessing that there will be one new unit for each race in each expansion. Although in the example you gave I guess it wasn't really even between the races if Protoss got three. :l I think the crawling zergling thing sounds cool though, but maybe make it a technology instead. And if you get that tech you can't get speedlings because then that would be kind of OP. Maybe the leap could be another tech as well, and would act like blink (if that's what I think you mean by leap). I just think having a new unit that is a different version of an already existing unit would be kind of weird. Especially since every unit in the game is completely different from one another.
terran would get new units too and that wasnt an example, brood war was the expansion for the original starcraft and it brought 2 new units to zerg, 2 new units to terran and 3 new units to protoss making 7 new units overall i think something like that sounds completely reasonable for each of the two remaining expansion packs maybe something along the lines of ... in heart of the swarm have 2 new units for terran 3 for zerg and 1 for protoss then in legacy of the void 3 new units for protoss 2 for terran and 1 for zerg that makes 12 new units altogether for both expansions thats 6 an expansion (which was less then brood war), thats 4 new units per race which sounds reasonable (an average of 2 new units per race per entire game), also we will be playing this game for 15 odd years lets get as much depth as we can
Yeah I know that wasn't a hypothetical example, I just called it that because I couldn't think of a better word for it. And I don't think Blizzard is willing to add twelve more units, they've already said that they want to keep the number of units limited. There was a thread about it on the forums recently.
yeah i know 12 units sounds like a lot but you have to realize it will be split into three races and over two expansions which will be released over years and remember brood war introduced 7 new units that sounds like allot for 1 expansion but when u were playing it didnt feel like there were that many more units
Blizzard has said the expansions might contain new units, but that's not guaranteed. I think only 1 unit per faction is reasonable, given there will be two expansions.
I see maybe some small Zerg changes and maybe a new unit for each race, and I don't expect to get any new units to be frank. I feel that Zerg will forever be screwed with certain situations, as with each race but I have this feeling it will come up more so with Zerg. And I think that I will be playing more terran but still will have my fill Zerg as well, but I will have to simply mass zerglings and get upgrades while teching as fast as I can to get my Hydras (pretty much my favorite unit) then go hydra/ling and try to use spells better. (infesters spaming infested Terrans and FG and maybe the acasional mind control.(but I guess thats all that infesters really can do) (I'm really not the best player, and I can't tell you my rank cuz I borrowed a friends account for the last couple days and then was on vaction for pretty much all of phase two, so I never accually got out of the placement matches. T_T)
I agree there are problems with the Zerg. The roach nerf really hurt because they replaced Hydras as the main foot soldier of the Zerg army and the swarming tactics don't work at 2 supply, especially against Terran mech.
Really hope they bring the lurker back. It was one of my fav units in BW. Also, I always feel a lot less secure when playing zerg than either toss or terran since you cant wall off the front as zerg unless you use spines. Would really make zerg better at defending if they had lurkers. I mean, they completely revamped the burrow mechanic by giving baneling mines and movable units while underground, yet they refused to bring back the one unit that actually used the burrow mechanic in the first game.
It's not even an expansion, the game is released in installments. They said they split what was orignially one game into three. Not to be nit picky, but saying they are two expansions isn't entirely accurate. The game as a whole is divided into three parts. Each race has it's own installment. I figure 1-2 units per installment. A total of 3 units added per race, but that doesn't mean the units will be totally viable. They might cheese out on a few to keep the balance there.
i guess 3 new units per race would be fine, i just think the more units the less the game feels like rock, paper, scissors. i also think that comes from the +damage vs armored/light i never really liked that mechanic
