Heart Gold/Soul Silver

Just got the gold/silver pokemon remakes this weekend(both of my younger sisters got it as well). Its nice to hear remixes of the old pokemon themes and that your pokemon follow you like Pikachu did in Yellow. So far I'm enjoying it, and they did make the gym leaders harder as I lost to Bugsy 2 times even with a lvl20 Pigeotto.

I'm already loving the new contest they've added, which involves doing various tasks with the touchpad instead of showing off moves in front of judges for points. Slashing the stylus around to make pokemon jump hurdles, run tracks, bash into each other, score goals, etc is a lot more fun that waiting for your turn to use moves like in previous games.

Anyway, I managed to get a female Eevee using the popular trick of saving before getting it from Bill, then restarting it until he gives me a female, so now after I beat the elite four and can get the various stones, I can create my eeveelution team from scratch.

However, this time I'm going to use Umbreon instead of Flareon, which means unfortunately I'll have to get 2 Eevees to love me enough to evolve since I'm getting an Espeon as well. DX

I'm actually farming eevees atm, looking for certain natures since bulbapedia shows how each nature affects various stats. For example, why would I want an Espeon with a nature that decreases the Sp. Att stat? Vaporeon would be best with a nature that has + def or sp. def since it already is an HP tank.

I've got an eevee and rattata together, and although they dont like eachother much, they're still producing eggs faster than I can hatch them. Guess true love doesnt exist in the pokemon world...or one of them just decides to overpower the other just for the sheer fun of it.

Had 4 eggs hatch so far, one being female(and it has a nature to increase sp att )

EDIT: sadly, the only way to get leafeon and glaceon is to trade them from D/P/Pt, and since i cant seem to be able to get the stones until after the elite four unless i get really lucky in the bug catching contest, the only forms I can really get atm would be espeon and umbreon.

EDIT: EDIT: just found out my eevee has grown 25 lvls, which means its lvl30 while my main party pokemon are only ~lvl21

 

I'm still playing Diamond. I decided to start over so I could get the natures I want and do some EV training. I may get HG/SS, but it all depends on this question: Can you get any of the Kanto starters in either game in addition to the Johto ones?

 

Only gotten to the fourth gym leader city, so not sure about kanto starters.

However, I did get my Espeon at lvl14 and has a quiet nature which buffs sp. att but lowers speed(although speed is still its second highest stat).

Now to start working on getting umbreon. It will be good against the ghost gym

 

Got Vaporeon by getting a water stone from the contest. However, it seems the programmers were devilishly smart in forseeing people like me trying to change the day on my DS to get more stones, as even when I change the date they wont let me buy another stone, so I'm guessing there is some kind of 24 hour timer in the game to stop that.

@kurai, listen to the radio when you get to the Lake of Rage, you'll get to hear the signal that is affecting the pokemon.

All this changing of pokemon in my party is really hurting my overall lvls. About to attack the Rocket's hideout and my pokemon are still in the mid-low 20s...I cant even beat Jasmine yet because her Steelix is lvl 35

 

@eon: yes, the programmers do that for all games now. if you try to cheat all the day stuff is gone, lol. and kurt doens't finish your balls any faster, either. my game was a day off somehow so i changed it and the haircut brow vanished, and kurt was like YOU JUST GAVE IT TO ME STFU.

and yeah, i also found out something. look at the stats screens for your pokemon in your party. if you look close, you can see a light blue or brown outline around two of the stats. the blue is bad, it means that's what it's bad in, and the brown is good. figured that out when i was looking at stats x3

one guy gave me a firestone xD the nerd near the sudowodo tree gave it to me a little while after we battled.

I also loovee the berry system in this game, and how you just plant and cultivate and raise the berries right in your pack. it's so much more efficient and simple that way. so far, i'm liking all the graphics and such in this fame

also! when your pokemon likes you, when you click on them and it says they're holding soemthing they'll give it to you xD my crobat did, but my growlithe (i got recently) does, too!

 

since i don't have a ds, ill just have to do with old crystal game That or leafgreen on my advance. The sheer amount of start-up conversation in every game is stupefying.

On a related note, anyone know a good source for catching location in Crystal? Also, whats with grass being either normal or weak against all pokemon in the beginning. My chikorita feels underpowered

 

well, drie, it depends what you want to catch.
and, yeah, it is weak at first =/ it doens't really help out on gym leaders but it gets to a hugee help in water and cave areas.

 

aaand. My crystal game just broke . What is it with me and getting cartridges that always get corrupted save files? It happened to my emerald too.
Luckily queens day is around the corner and i might be able to pick up a secondhand game or two.

The battle with the kimono girls was an endurance match, the first 5 eevee forms all ~lvl37 and no way to save/heal between matches. Before the fight with Ho-oh, you get to see a cool cutscene with the kimono girls dancing to the sound of the bells and Ho-oh flying down after the song ends.

Then you get to listen to this awesome music when you talk to and fight it:

I've currently got 4 eevee forms and ho-oh and bayleef in my party(yeah, i havent evolved it yet)

 

i ran into entei before, and just threw a ball at him jokingly, he poppedout and ran away.

i just found raikou and was like lol let's throw a ball at him. i caught him XD in just one ball with him having full life

 

Sitting at the start of victory road with lvl 36 pokemon...wild pokemon outlevel me...somethings wrong here...

One thing that annoys me is that Umbreon is so much weaker in attacking than my others. It's att stat is 62, while the others use the sp. att. stat and have it around 90-100. Makes it hard to train without taking a lot of damage, even if it does have high def stats.

And idk why Umbreon's att is so low, I even sacrificed sp. att for att with it's nature. It has a lot higher defense, but that kinda gets defeated by the fact that my other pokemon can take out most others in 2 hits, where Umbreon needs 4 to really take anything out.

 

Update: tried elite four, got soundly handed to by Koga. Only Ho-oh lived and proceeded to take out half of Bruno's team alone. Probably would have been fine if I used items, but I was testing to see how far I could get without them since this wasn't a serious attempt.

Going to go train all my pokemon ~5 lvls and try a serious run.

 

Beat Gary(Blue), which was a pain to do since my pokemon were 5-10 lvls lower than his. Got the GB Player so I can turn it on and run around the entire game listening to the 8-bit music from the original G/S/C. However, the music is slightly different since the sound card used in the DS cant support true 8-bit music. Best part is that when I activate it, it stays on, so I dont have to keep reusing it when I change locations(running, fly, teleport, dig, swim, etc).

So Im pretty much going to keep it on. What could be better than listening to my fav pokemon generation music added with the best visuals in the handheld games too

Because I'm like many fans that believe that the G/S/C music sounded better than the R/S/E and D/P/Pt music. The remakes are good, but it's more nostalgic to hear the old versions, and for a lot of people, their originals don't work anymore due to a battery malfunction that was common with the original cartridges.
