    Happy Memorial Day,

Today is the day to remember all veterans passed and present who have fought and made the ultimate sacrifice so that others could enjoy what we as Americans and free people cherish and take advantage of so easily. Remember those who went before you and those who gave their lives in defense of this country. Dont take this as a day off from school, from work, or from your ordinary life, take this as a day to realize and remember the brave men and women who has done so much for so little recognition. Remember them, and never forget.

Not just Americans, a day to remember everyone who has fought and died for what they truly believed what was right all over the world, whether they were right or not.

Remember the brave ones, lest the world sink into cowardice.

    McLean,

Americans (for the most part) take memorial day as nothing more than as a day off from school, work, or savings on clothes and super specials.

Its pathetic that most americans dont even know what Memorial Day is all about.

What significant event happened today where Memorial day should be embraced? I dont celebrate any holiday really and people die everyday for all different reasons. I will not dispute whether or not these people should or should not be remembered or how brave and even selfless they and their actions may have been. But if someone feels this is important, shouldnt this be a more common practice and not need an actual National Holiday to do so? I mean we all may say "hey today is important and we should be self educated about it and not forget what happened by paying respects", but what does that even mean? What actions are you even preaching to be done? As everyone shakes their heads and replies this is important and 5 minutes later browses Youtube or takes a shower and forget they even posted.

Fighting for independance. Fighting for freedom, whatever that may entail for you sounds good when spoken, but what that really describes for me I cant quite put my finger on.

To me I think a real fight for freedom is a women in Burma who was placed under 13 years of house arrest for believing in free speech and with 2 weeks left is prosicuted for violating that 13 years by taking someone into their home for a few days. Someone who has the option to leave the country, but choses not. Despite knowing she will be put into a jail where people are tortured and killed. That to me is more powerfull of a message then enlisting into an army.
So what exactly is Memorial day?

Being born into a family full of veterans I have to know what Memorial Day is. It's like a tradition for the men in my family to go into the military one way or another. But anyways Happy Memorial Day everyone, I know it's late but who cares.
