So i was wondering if you guys think there should be vespene geysers that produce more gas per stop. Basically, "gold" vespene geysers is what i'm getting at. Since there are gold minerals, why not gold vespene geysers or more easily mined geysers. Another idea I was thinking about was the WC3 idea of upgrading "Mining" so that the workers could carry more minerals or gas. Maybe a Thor could mine 100 minerals in one long mine. ;D
You obviously nevr used a Goblin shredder . (It bought im more wood than you could spend) Vespene is supposed to be rare and "control" a Players growth. Vespene income is pretty much limited based on Geysers under your control, destroying the building is quite difficult with a drop and only a small number of Peons is effective when harvesting it. Golden Minerals are an advantage but because you don´t get a similar increase in gas you can´t automatically outproduce your enemy. The Tiers and Technology availability has to be somewhat comparable between the races, Vespene income is somewhat consistant even if the enemy succsesfully harrases. What I mean is that steady Vespene is one "safeguard" against deciding games in Tier1. If one player could gets an advantage in Minerals he is doing good, if he got one with Vespene he would be winning. The resources aren´t equal, while you need both Vespene is much more important and limiting. Minerals can be harvested much faster but this process takes up food (the peons). It isn´t always the best idea to maximize Mineraloutput unlike Gas. High yield Vespene would affect the game a lot more than High yield Minerals because the SC economy is build for it. In SC you sometimes get Maps with Mineral only expansions but none with Gas only. Never wondered why?
Their definately are gas only expansions. The only I can think off the top of my head is party at ground zero (one of my favorite maps, it was on the N64), and the geysers had a lot (7500?) of gas if I remember correctly.
Thanks for the insight Unentschieden! I didn't understand it completely, but I think i get the gist of it. Well, back to the drawing board then...
