I've had this kickass idea for a while now for a new game. It isn't so much of a game, as a concept for a new way to play RTS games, such as StarCraft. Ok, so what if like, instead of just building your army up and sending them to attack your opponents, you are actually able to go into a First Person mode and play as any unit you've created. This is something I've always wanted to do in StarCraft and other RTS games, just take over a marine or orc and go around laying waste to all my enemies first hand! What do yall think? Could it work? Would it be as kickass as i think it would be? Also, if anyone knows of a game like this, please let me know.
There is a game like this its called Rise and fall: civilizations at war http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rise_and_Fall:_Civilizations_at_War http://www.gametrailers.com/game/1493.html
well... i dont think it would be very fun. you'd take control of a unit for like 4 seconds before it being killed.
Actually, this is what they could of done to Starwars Battle Front. The game is a FPS, sorta, but if the gave the option of controlling troops it could be a RTS/FPS Actually this topic came up the other day. My friend was yacking on about Super Smash Bros Brawl. I opened up the SCII site and said no game beats this. He just looked at it and asked it you could go into a first person view...... ( sigh)
Being able to adjust the camera into a first-person view is cool, but it's not a good idea if you actually are a unit.
I friend of mine on battle.net had an idea for a hybrid MMO, where people can play as commanders or soldiers. A player could play at the strategic level, building structures, training units, collecting resources, while other player would play at the tactical level, perhaps jumping between units as they die, perhaps as a hero, and play in the first person, doing the little things that the commander can't.
There is something like that already. It's called Savage or something like that. One player is a commander (they can change during game) and other players are single units, I think it was third or first person depending on a unit. Commander places buildings (which others 'build' by hitting it ;p), issues orders (but players don't have to listen ^^), researches upgrades and has general overwiev of what's happening where. Units can't be trained but players respawn and they can be any researched unit if they have enough money on them or commander allows them to use money from vault. Gameplay is unit specific (different for warrior, mage or say catapult obviously ^^) but most units can "build" and gather resources. I think it about covers it. Also there's old good Dungeon Keeper where you can take control over a unit.
