The first time I opened SC2 after installing, it opened up the 'Updating' window, which got to 50% before closing itself, and the 'Blizzard Downloader' pops up, and that makes it to 99%, then closes. I assumed that this meant it had updated itself successfully, but then when I try to open the game, I only get a small bit of activity, and then nothing. I took a look at my processes when this was happening, and StarCraft II.exe pops up there, but then disappears without warning. If I repair the game file using the handy little program Blizzard includes in the game, then it resets me to how it was when I first installed the game, and I just go through the updater-downloader-dead in the water steps all over again. Anybody have any idea why this is happening?
First, please post what you know about your system such as: Laptop or Desktop? (If laptop, what Make and model) Operating System (Windows XP, Vista, 7, 32/64-bit, MacOSX 10.xx) CPU Power Supply Unit (only really needed for desktops) RAM Make, model, speed, amount Motherboard Make and Model (if you are aware of what it is) Harddrive Make, Model, RPM Speed, and cache amount (if you are aware of what it is) Video Card Make and Model Answer those questions as best you can to provide us with additional information that may be useful. First try this: Open your internet options (For Win 7, just type that into the search bar, otherwise open Internet Explorer, select options, then tools), navagate to the connections tab, select LAN Settings, and then uncheck the box that says "Automatically detect settings." Try running StarCraft II. Check my FAQ for more information on the following questions. Q. My patcher downloads a little bit of patch, then stops in the same spot! What do I do? Q. I keep receiving the error ‘multiple problems saving data’ when patching, what can I do? (I would try the last one first). If none of that works, let us know along with the additional information and we'll take it from there.
Thanks for your various FAQs on this website... I've tried your suggestions on setting the Google DNS, and I forwarded the appropriate ports to my router. None of this has worked, and I still have the same problem: the downloader only gets to 50%, then it closes and the updater launches, which gets to 99% before closing. After this point, the game refuses to launch until I repair it, and when I do that, the whole process just starts again. I'm using the newest version of BootCamp on a Macbook Pro... my specs are: Windows XP SP3 Intel Core Duo 2.16 Ghz 1 GB of 667 MHz PC2-5300 DDR2 SO-DIMM SDRAM 5400 rpm, 100 GB serial-ATA hard drive Radeon x1600 w/ 256 MB Video RAM Thanks again for your help, I'll be checking back to see what I can try to do to troubleshoot this problem Cheers
Do you have any unusual read/write restrictions in place on the install directory? Are the patch components (updates+versions) appearing in their sub directories of the Starcraft II folder? Are game files being set to read only for some reason? Compare with another person to see if you are getting the complete set of the patch components.
You may try deleting the updates folder, or manually copying the updates using the manual method in my FAQ. If that fails, another user posted this fix using regedit.
Its not just you. If Blizzard had a non bittorrent based patcher, 99% of the connection problems would probably disappear
how do i patch manually... i have downloaded the files you hosted, extracted both of them, but I don't know where to put those files... i put the ones in your 'updates' folder into my 'updates' folder in the SCII directory, but to no avail. is this the right way to do it? also, I looked through my folder, and my 'updates' is read only, and I cannot change it, it just reverts to read only every time i try. finally, I found a whole bunch of dll and such files in 'support', and moved them to 'versions', where a SC2.exe files exists and won't open because it couldn't find one of the dll files that was in versions.
