i mean the dragoons we saw when we first encountered the protoss... i dont recall the protoss ever having a war in which their warriors got wounded before the war with the zerg
Ever played the map Aeon of Strife? It's based around the whole war between Shelak and Dae'Tul, two protoss leaders after the xel'naga had left. It was among the bloodiest wars ever recorded by the protoss IIRC and there were likely dragoons put into place at this time to revitalize sorely deplenished manpower.
did the protoss already have dragoon technology in the aeon, according to firstborn they still used hammers as weapons...
They apparently had early-variants of shuttles. So I don't see why something akin to dragoons would be out of the question.
still think it is strange that they had shuttles or dragoons, they hadnt even invented driving yet, and why id they preserve their deadly wounded if the only way you can steer a dragoon is through the khala, which they didnt have
"However, the suspicious Protoss responded with an attack on the Xel'Naga Worldships, which fended off the hasty attack and left the system. The Protoss Tribes then turned against each other, beginning what is now known as the Aeon of Strife, a devastating civil war that lasted thousands of years; consuming many generations of the long lived Protoss." They were able to attack the Xel'Naga Worldships? And THEN the Aeon of Strife ensued? I'm fairly certain if they could attempt to gank a worldship they had enough technology to build walkers. *Edit* Also, just because the dragoons we know of are bonded to the exoskeleton via usage of the Khala does not mean the original dragoon variants were as well. They might have been simply piloted mechs, similar to Goliaths or Vikings.
According to Firstborn they simply attacked the Worldships on the ground. According to the Colossus lore, the Protoss used to go to war against other alien races frequently. (Go see its page!) The manual suggested the same thing (but only suggested it). This is probably not canon, but there are "canceled" missions on older versions of the original StarCraft CD. In one, Fenix reminisced about a battle with the Tagal on Dannuth VII.
They most likely were made right after the protos civil war. there were so many disfigured tos that they put them in preserving pods and then they developed ways for them to move.
Which Protoss civil war? Aeon of Strife? (Too long ago.) Against the Dark Templar the first time? That might be from whence Taldarin came, but he's (on of the) first Dragoon(s). The second one (eg Tassadar vs the Conclave)? There were lots of Dragoons around from before then.
Time for some clarification. The Dragoons were created after the time of Adun it appears and may have been developed during the Brutal Kalathi Interssesion, which, resulted in the banning of the Collossus from being created. As it was the occurence of the Interssesion that ceased the Protoss interferance with lesser races and began their own form of restrictions upon meeting with other races I believe it may have been here the Dragoons were created. As they appear less fearsome than Collossus, yet, they resemble them (Four legs) and it is the last war the Protoss openly fought in until the first contact with the Zerg and Terran in the Koprulu Sector. Of course this is only a guess.
i think that they had a way of keeping the wounded alive, but only in a certain state of bubble that made them unable to do anything, so they made the dragoons after words as a way to find use with the now useless pods of the wounded.
why could the dragoons not be made from the current war with the zerg? Before then they could have been rare, like from military accidents.
