Let's discuss Final Fantasy, a series of games that's been acknowledged as some of the best in gaming history. And yes, it includes all the side-games (Tactics/DoC etc etc) and the upcoming games (FFXIII - FFVersusXIII - FFVII: Crisis Core - those i know)

In particular, Final Fantasy VII, my personal favorite.
So, to start things up: How many of you have played this game (FF7), and mainly, how many of you liked/disliked it and what parts exactly did/didn't you like?

Personally, there's really three things with the game i enjoy.
1: Sepiroth (he got voted by some site as the Number 1 game villain - i agree (in fact, Kerrigan came 2nd - fancy that))
2: The Story (like the stories of it's predecessors and successors, the story of FF7 is intricate, dynamic and vivid)
3: The Buster-sword (who doesn't like 7 feet long swords, LOL?)

Hmm, I used to like those games when I was younger, but they've lost their charm somehow. Seriously, ATB is the lousiest thing ever. It's the characters that rock. I've played FF4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, and indeed the 7 is the greatest. It's a bit more sinister than the others and the game mechanics work exceptionaly well. Mayde I should check out the XII also.

ff3/6 and ff9 are the games that rock. the games like ff8,ff10/-2, and ff12 are the games that have too much technology. ff7 did too, but it has the greatest storyline. the technology in the other ff's kill everything.

not only the technology, but the battle systems have gotten stupid also

I never could get the hang of FFVII's battle system, though Vincent is a mega-pimp. Personally, my fave is FFX. As I mentioned in another thread, that one was simply epic, or as my fave band says, it was totally empire. It had like, a bajillion plot twists, an amazing score, ranging from bluegrass, to opera, to heavy metal. The Sphere Grid is an amazing innovation. The cutscenes were gorgeous. My only complaint is the FFX-2 totally and completely failed in comparison.

yeah X-2 completely sucked. they build the whole thing up that you get to meet tidus again, then it ends up being some douche that wants to blow up the world.

From the 'numbered' ones I played:
I & II: DoS ver. First was good. It didn't have much story or anything but played fun. And 8-Bit Theatre RULES. As for second, I didn't really like the characters and stat raising system was a pain. When I got to the last boss I hardly could hurt him, and the girl who was supposed to be healer had highest STR Oo

IV: I hate Cecil. He's just so lame, I think his line "I didn't become Dark Knight to kill innocent people" or smg like that explains all. Kain on the other hand is one of my fav guys in all series. Hope he shows up in dissidia.

V: My first FF game, the job system is awesome (for cheap tactics esp ;p) and they did a really good job on translating it in GBA ver. Gilgamesh ftw! Best 'comic relief' vilian in series up to 9 (didn't play further)

VI: It's considered one of the best game in series, but I never really liked it that much. I prefer lighter V, with job system instead of ton of characters. Also Kefka is often said to be best vilian (he actually destroyed the world), but... come on, he's a clown...

VII: My favourite FF, great and one of the most F* up stories ever. Materia system was very good (also allowed cheap tactics like emerald in two-three rounds), though setting everything up was a pain sometimes. At least not as much as in Chrono Cross. Best character for me is Red XIII, with Vincent and Cloud close. And there's "One Winged Angel"...

VIII: Also very good but I didn't like the stroy as much as in 7 and it had annoying characters like Selphie or Irvine. Seifer was a psycho in a bad way, Squall's attitude was coll at first but, of course, he had to fall in love... There was too much technology (space station, magic was kinda 'artificial'), but you can't deny the awesomeness of Ragnarok. The Draw system sucked. At first I almost didn't draw anything and I couldn't beat some bosses, other time I drawn everything that appeared and it was way too easy.

IX: Overall very good one but some factors ruined it for me. Mostly half-animal characters and most of the party. Especially Zidane, I hate him. I was so relieved when I noticed that I don't have to take him for final battle. So what he was strongest? Get lost monkey! And as for final battle itself... (SPOILER) big dissapointment. I mean, that guy wasn't mentioned AT ALL during the game (I don't think it was even hinted but I may not remember) and all of sudden he appears and claims he pulled the strings all the time. Yeah, right... On the upside I liked skill-learning system and chocobo digging game. And there was Vivi. Another of my favourite FF characters.

I'm yet to play the PS2 titles when I get the console, which may be anywhere from few weeks to years :/

The only PS2 Final Fantasy worth playing is XII. In fact, VII was my favorite, until I played XII.

I thought it was, though I haven't found many that feel the same way. It's very different from the other FF's (namely the real-time interface and battle system), and a lot of hardcore fans didn't warm up to it.

I'll tell you, though, once you hunt beasts in real time, you'll wonder how you ever went without it. ;)

Yeah, a lot of people had issues with FF12. IMO, it's still an awesome game, the summons or whatever they're called in that one (I wanna say "espers") is simple breath-taking, graphically. My biggest gripe is that the makers can't get over their fetish for main characters of ambitious genders

Found this. Some dude went into deep digging on FF7 and found... well, a lot. You wouldn't believe how much planning Squaresoft(Today: Square Enix) put into the story of FF7... or well, read this and you will.
