Anyone play FFA? I find it pretty fun really. I play Protoss and this is what I usually do: 9 Pylon Pylon finishes Boost Boost 16 Cut probes (means stop building probes) Nexus Gateway ---> Zealot Zealot / Boost ---> Stalker Gas Pylon Resume probes / boost Cycore Gateway Pylon Basically it's just a standard Protoss build but with a fast expansion inserted into it. I've always done things like this in FFA because I don't see any reason at all in people being aggressive early in the game for FFA. However if a player does decide to attack you early on they'll have to commit a lot to actually kill you and I just don't see it happening very often. Then... 4 Warp Gate Robotics / Citadel of Adun ---> Blink, Charge / Forge +2 Warp Gate Expand more Basic build. Very strong. Make sure to use all your boosts on robotics, forge, tech, and probes throughout the entire game. It helps a lot. Also sometimes I slap down a second robotics and sometimes a support bay for dual pump immortal or colos. Be weary of what you're up against though. I usually scout later game because there is no need to early game. If someone is massing air or something then maybe you don't want to try to mass immorals or colos for your ground army. For Zerg I know mass muta/ling is strong. For Terran I'm not sure what is good. Pure MMM isn't good. Mech is good. Maybe some sort of combination of everything. I don't know. Nukes could be very useful.
It's just to discuss the strategy. No questions unless ones come up during discussion. Zerg goes mass mualisks usually, which is great against Void Rays. There are always players who mass air. I think ground is the way to go personally until later in the game maybe. It allows you to out muscle players for resources. Air is pretty good too though.
I think the reason mass air is used is because it takes a lot less micro to use since you dont need to worry about cliffs. And since most maps have cliffs near the base, air can easily go and harass with little risk of ground AA units to fight them in time.
That's true. That's one reason obs + blink is useful to get relatively soon so you can have the mobility you need to stop things like that. For Protoss I don't like to go void rays because Zerg players or Terran players might mass mutas or vikings and then it's kind of hopeless. Then for carriers a lot of times a stronger player will dominate the map while you're massing and that kind of sucks. Carriers do seem cooler though. Carriers are very strong. I like them. Only tried them once so I might try them some more. Of course you can always transition to air later on if you want, or get a little air and focus on ground. Late game mothership / carriers can be painful.
I haven't played FFA but I would probably make a lot of infestors. Might seem funny but between neural parasite and fungal growth they counter most big-unit masses and mobile hit and run things like mutas. Infested terran ends up working extremely well as your primary defense, coupled with support units. Bonus: infested terrans don't consume your limited resources (minerals/gas), just your infestors energy, letting you save up more for later in the game. Unlike 1v1/2v2 you should be under less pressure as well, making "stupid" builds like this more feasible. Now that infested terrans are being torn from corrupters and put as a limited ability of the overseer (too much energy to use) this won't be possible anymore. Seriously though, I've massed infestors in 2v2 custome games, and infested terran is an absolutely amazing ability when you reach the point of having 8+ infestors running around. They have counters, but combined with support units and the infestors other abilities (fungal growth to stop runners, neural parasite to eliminate mass tier 1 counters like collusi) they are absolutely amazing and funny to use.
FFA is basically a turtling game, no one can be aggressive because they could lose their army and be wide open to a counterattack by the 3rd player. Basically, what you need to do is be defensive, get some expos, and build up a large army while harassing your opponents everywhere with minimal forces. You want to deal as much damage as you can without committing more than 20% of your army. That means drops, backdoor through destructible rocks, lots of harassing units, etc. Only attack when you have 200/200, have several thousand resources saved up, and have 12 or so production buildings. That way if you lose most of your army, and you quickly rebuild before you get counterattacked by the other player.
I play!. It's fun I never attack anyone just let them kill each other off or weaken each other till I mass void rays and melt everyone to death in the end! hahahaha But a lot of times in order for this strategy to work you have to play the psychology game also. I Let everyone think so and so is attacking me or rushing me to make everyone think i'm weak. Sometimes they deny it but most of the time people believe me anyway hahaha I also have good defense just in case they try to attack me they usually leave me alone after a few attempts
That's clever MAPPREVIEW. That actually works too. I've had games in Starcraft 1 that I would win not by lying but by telling everyone what was going on...and then people would stop fighting me (the "weak" one) and start fighting each other.
