Feedback on Clan Site

Sexy, just th news and ranks, and also Emily(Missy[E]) Caught a misspell on the site, its tournaments not tournements

 

- spelling
- unnecessary horizontal scroll bar (the layout could easily fit if you didn't have blank borders on the sides)
- colour scheme (the green is not really suitable for the black/red)
- strict (or at least strictly worded) rules - it discourages newcomers and seem to overcomplicate things (even if they're necessary)

+ content seems sufficient
+ link to this forum
+ menu seems well planned and straight-forward (but get rid of the red arrows)

It can become a good site but the presentation needs to be improved.

 

Well to comment on the rules, these rules work. Nonetheless, if newcommers feel discouraged by them, then they dont belong in the clan. These rules are simple, ez, and are common sense, if you think our rules are bad, you need to see more clans. There are clans that have strict manner rules that say you cant cuss in channel, although positive, its ludacris.

But thank you for the other comments, the green texting is used becuase i think it works with the site IMO. but yeah.

 

I think there needs to be some real-time elements incorporated in it...

Maybe give some links to our ally clans sites and get them to do the same for us, that way our site becomes more well known etc.

 

the sites pretty nice, not my favorite color scheme but its definitely pretty good
should get a pro graphics designer now to spend hours and hours and hours making a sleeeeeek layout

I just said that as a complete newcomer (not just to your site but to starcraft clans as well), they sound very rigid to me. Of course it might be due to the fact that I suck at SC and so I consider it more of a 'fun' game than a serious competition. It's probably because your clan is a serious one, in which case these rules sound fine.

No excuses for the spelling mistakes though

it isnt bad. seems like everyone wants more.. but its a simple clan site.. what more do you need then a link to forums.. rules and a member roster? You did a good job shadow. If you want to improve i think it would be cool if like the member roster was more personalized like if we could put some of our info.. maybe our forum id so we know eachother and like avatars are always fun.i dunno tho.
I respect the rules you have made, but i think that a 1 bot limit should be instilled.. other then ops there isnt a real reason for member to have 2-3 bots sitting idle in the channel is there? 1 bot for chatting is enough. i think it makes the channel full and ugly and i have already seen times where bots had to be kicked because channel was full(not from a load) but from members.. its just rediculous. If they have extra bots they should throw them in the back up. IMO ofcourse

I completley agree with you, i have no control over forums though, so that isnt my department, however as for the customization of the rosters for individuals, i am only HTML knowledgable, and even that knowledge is basic, i have no PHP functions or otherwise. I would like to make the website more customizable for members, its just i dont have the knowledge.

 

hey you know better then me shadow.. i am HTML ignorant. You do your thing! But as far as the member roster.. maybe we should have like a just joined section so that the list isnt overwhelmed with new arrivals who end up as no-shows... that is always a problem with clans and finding active members. Blah, but since i am not doing any site updating you guys do your thing and keep it so fresh and so clean.

I am a freelance web designer and have a lot of experience designing, coding, publishing, and maintaining websites. I have done my own website, maintenance on various clan sites in the past, advisory over my schools' websites, and so on. One could say I have a lot of credentials, trust me. I also have a keen eye for color and page composition. I spend a lot of time analyzing professional sites and reading up on aesthetics.

I talk big but I actually procrastinate a lot and am somewhat lazy. As you can see from my personal website that I only have an index page up at the moment:

Anyway, without further interruption I would like to offer my opinion on your site.

Index
Your index page is coded kinda funny and if you look at it closely it looks kinda... Well, it looks visually unpleasing. I understand the creator's point of view in putting the generic Starcraft image on there behind the YouTube video. I just think that I've seen that series of images far too often for far too long. I think your video is nice, it really captures the spirit of your mission, even if I've seen most of those clips a million times. To be honest I only watched up until Linkin Park started playing. I don't know if there are replays in there but that would be a good thing to add, some action from clan replays. From the looks of the video (Yes I have experience in video editing and creation in both Adobe Flash and Sony Vegas), it looked like the creator was using Microsoft's video editing program. Another query I had was: What is up with shapeU0KNO.gif, is it supposed to be positioned at the top and repeating horizontally? Because it isn't. It looks like trash. And with MainIndex.jpg on top of it it looks worse, no offense. A tip for MainIndex.jpg is to take it into Photoshop and make it a little bigger, and have the sides fade off into the colors of shapeU0KNO.gif, to make it flow better. The last thing on the index page (besides the gruesome coding [Web Page Maker V2?? shameful...]) is the oddly colored and oddly placed link for Firefox. It just looks bad.

I'll comment on more later, and believe me I have a lot more to say, but I have to go for now.
