One thing that can be done before SC2 even comes out is the making of fade filters for custom maps. It's cool to be able to see a cinematic scene through eyes other than the fly-over game view, or even the camera-manipulated game view.

Some effects can be achieved by simply putting a fade filter over the camera to make it look as if the camera were mounted to a gun, missile, or inside some creature's head. The next thing that has to be done (although it wasn't so easy to do with the WC3 camera) is to pan the camera so that it looks like the camera itself is pivoting, but this is done with triggers which we don't yet know how to write for SC2.

Below I show an example of a simple fade filter that can be used to make it appear as if the user were seeing through an autocannon scope. This has been done before, but there are a lot of things that can be done to give added realism. Note the text on the lower right; if the text were periodically changed with randomly swapped images, a lot of animation would be added to the view.

The best thing would be for Blizzard to allow us to position filter images at stationary points in front of the camera, to lie overtop of anything else that the game renders. This would not be difficult to code, but may not be something that Blizzard thinks to do. We can at least hope.

Also, notice my examples of a missile sight in Reply #5 of this post:

I would definitely like to see this available to us in SCUMEdit. These would really get dramatic points across and help add on to your custom creation's depth.

Here is a sequence that could be used in a nice campaign map setting:

I'm not sure I understand the shrinking field of view sequence, although the text makes sense to me...

Did you guys check out my other camera filters on the other thread I pointed to? They're probably better, but I didn't want to repost.

A camera attached to the nose of the nuclear missile captures and streams live video before the target is hit.

I saw them and that's what inspired me to make my set... with a nuke!

Oh, I see. The people weren't getting bigger, so I wasn't re-living all those fun times watching CNN and Fox News during the first and second Iraq wars, respectively. Quality entertainment, for those with a dark sense of humor...
