From reading all the articles and interviews, I get the feeling that one of the main reasons that they need much more time is CG cut scenes. I know they still have all the balancing to do ahead of them, and of course that will take a lot of time. But just the game engine and interface alone, appeared rather close to finish, many things were already implemented at this stage. Most of unit development appears close to finish as well, especially how Blizzard said all three races were already playable in multiplayer. In one interview they said that they could no longer do CG cut scenes in a single pass, and they had to resort to other rendering engines. You can't really start rendering anything unitl the units, story, and characters are mostly set in stone because the scenes need to match the rest of the content. Not to mention CG rendering is already very time consuming in the first place. With the need to do mutliple passes on every scene, it would seem to be one of the big factors in how much time is required before we can see a finished product.
You are very true. I hope Blizz takes more time doing that than in starcraft 1, because the CGI zerglings and guardians looked nothing like their ingame counterparts.
My big worry is that they create a good campaign story in enough time. Your CG hypothesis made me worry even more, especially because Starcraft had 3 times more cinematics than Wc3 did so they'll have a lot of work to do. I'm just glad that they have the intro cinematic ready, and it looks gold!
I think I'm gonna get sick to my stomach if I keep thinking about the long wait ahead of me. I need some SC2 action like right now. Dang it Blizzard, my life depends on it!!
It must be hard to wait for so long, I know it sucks for me but I know I can't play Starcraft II right now even if it comes out because my computer will simply die trying to load it, let alone play it. Then again you don't have to sit there doing homework like I'm doing now because EVEN starcraft isn't working for me now! :bigcry: :furious: :bigcry:
gameplay balance and interface. i dont like the command menu interface (shown in the demo) its simple similar to starcraft 1. i hope more details and effects will be added ;D
I'm pretty certain that they'll make plenty of top quality cinematics for the story. Given the fact that they know exactly what fans expect, as well as their commitment to perfection. it's likely that they've already have all the units and structures done. Balancing is a very difficult job. And it's not likely that they'll get a perfect balance until after the game is released, then fans complain about imbalances then they release new versions to balance them. Apparently they've got some professional SC players from Korea to test out the game (LUCKY THEM!!!!)
Remy i know exactly how you feel. Arrrgh it's going to be so long until i actually get to play this game! And i'm already going near obsessive on SC1, just like the good 'ole days... Saying that though, i'd rather they take a long time and bring out the game to beat ALL games. With INSANELY good cinematics. And a storyline to match (and beat) that of SC1. Not forgetting perfect balance. Oh and really funny new one-liners when you keep clicking on the units. Well by my standards, the game wouldn't be out in my lifetime i don't think
well guys, though we all REALLY hate waiting, if it really must take them so long to get something really good, like wha you said, edward, perfect balance and everything, who minds waiting for the game? but the only requirement is that it be released during our lifetimes. blizzard's also pretty busy with other stuff, like keeping world of warcraft in order and producing diablo 3, i heard.
