Well, that was new. Personally i expected Blizzard to announce a beta date. However, fate has been cruel to us and we only received several screenshots and new renders for zerg structures. Frankly, i don't understand why NDA's were required. It's just another QandA session plus previews of the latest renditions on Starcraft. Also, i'm extremely disappointed at blizzard's decision to disallow Lan. While i appreciate the fantastic new renders on the Zerg, this is prehaps one of the worst annoucements made by Blizzard, even a Battle Report is worth more than the meager information that has been presented so far. I hope some of you share the same frustration as i do.

Look at it this way, we know betas coming this summer, so its less than 3 months away... whats another 3 months?

Personally, I think when the beta is on its way, there will be some official teaser on the blizzard site.

As far as the actual news goes, I was hoping for more info on bnet2, but it was still ok.

Also, there was no battle report, but there was a gameplay video. And IMO, it was just as good as any BR.

I expected more uproar about the LAN issue.

I really don't care about LAN... I mean who doesn't have internet nowadays?

Every LAN party I've been at lately has internet. Having to play on Bnet won't bother me at all.

Why must it be disappointment that we express? What if we're not disappointed? Also, the LAN thing was already all but confirmed so I'm not shocked at all.

The zerg in general seem to just scare me a bit. It looks worse then before somehow. If they would just bring the lurker down i dont think i would be worried. And reading the Team Liquied report on the zerg is even worse. Drop ships holding units is going to run a field day on zerg now. its gonna be raining marines and ghost....

That's not the one and only point of LAN, you know.

Firstly, anyone who wants to play against their siblings will need to buy two copies of StarCraft2, and two copies of each expansion. That's getting close to an extra three hundred dollars there, assuming they only have one sibling.

Secondly, those foolish enough to have been born outside of the US, Asia or Europe will be permanently stuck with about a half a second delay in all their multiplayer games.

And thirdly, there's also the fact that a connection is now a requirement to play, so those with a crappy connection will commonly be disconnected. Furthermore trouble with either Bigpond, etc, or Battle.Net could prevent play for up to a couple of days, and Battle.Net 2.0 may frequently be down for maintenance. That might not sound like a huge issue, but if people only have a limited playtime due to school or work, then these interruptions could grow quite tiresome indeed.

Personally I'm not really feeling too disappointed. I do play SC2 on LAN regularly, but I'm convinced this will not be an issue.

They said they are replacing LAN with something else involving Battle.net 2.0. Chances are they are using this purely as an anti-piracy measure, seeing as its very easy to play Starcraft at LANs or over hamachi without actually owning the game. By forcing us to connect to B.net, they can validate that we have a real key and one that is not in use by another player.

I think that once we are validated, we will be able to directly connect to the host via the local network, and only the host will remain connected to Battle.net, if anyone. Thus, lag shouldn't be an issue.

Sucks for pirates, but if it's good enough a game to play, buy it ;-)

The people who really ARE losing out here are siblings who may have to each purchase a copy of the game. There might be some sort of solution for this, but I doubt it. We'll just have to see what happens.

blizzard has always actually had the policy of ppl needing to have 2 copies to play together, WoW and Wc3 are the first games that really started to get that impact on players.

its a valid want and right.

BTW Blizzard never said they were announcing something, the internet assumed, and we all suckered in, that with the NDA lift blizz will do a media blitz...um...they never said they are

They really didn't Wind. You're forgetting about Spawning. This LAN thing really sticks in my craw. It's totally absurd to me that they would restrict such a basic facet of their game for "piracy." That excuse is absolute nonsense. Pirates will ALWAYS find a way around, and restricting something as huge as LAN for that reason is... just completely moronic. I mean, look at it this way. So people will now pirate and/or crack it for LAN purposes. Their friends who play it with them will buy a copy. The pirate will buy a copy to play on Bnet with their friends. And they will STILL hold the LAN parties. The only people missing out here are the honest customers.

actually they did, WoW moreso than Wc3
you can your friend cant share the same WoW key or account, and there's no LAN for it hence you need 2games and subscriptions to play together.

I dont care about lan - i understand why people are annoyed but some of that minorities bull**** has gone over the top.

I see people posting low reviews of the game on amazon because there is no lan. I see people botting signatures on that damn pention.

    1. The game isnt going to fail because of lack of lan. It will still be enjoyable, and will still (im sure) be extremely sucessful.

    2. You WILL buy the game, and you WOULD even if it was the multiplayer portion for $50, its so ridiculous seeing people on their high horses spouting that they will never buy the game, but continue to check back into all its fan forums every day to check for updates.
Its like watching stroppy 12 year olds who were just told that they cant watch one scene in a movie because its too disturbing - and then proceeding to yell that they never cared about the movie in the first place, its FACE PALMY.

    3. In respect to people thinking removing lan wont have an effect on piracy - Ohohoh. Yes. IT will.

im pretty sure there was similar outrage when WoW came out, MONTHLY FEE?!?! OMFG FAIL FAIL PWNZORS!!!

and yet...on day one ppl like me got it, loved it, still play it, and all the other nubzors ended up getting it making the no. 1 PC game in the world, making blizzard a ton of money to make games like starcraft 2, and diablo, and work on more WoW, and a new MMO, and hey maybe a WC4 is in the works too! (maybe...)

no LAN? they said there will be something new, stop crying, blizzard doesnt care about whiners

I hate monthly fee. having to ay each month is a nice idea to take away the money of the player.
So even if I love Wow(tried 14 day trial) i never bought it.

Nice idea to take away money from the player?

Is it a fashionable trend these days for people to be so ignorant of how a MMO works? For starters they dont take ****, you pay them and the transation is entirely up to the player. Secondly, content wise, the money spent, is well spent. You get tonnes of new content (and i dont mean ****ty rehashes like other MMO's do) for your cash.

But yeah, im sure you just meant light heartedly to point out blizzards financial money cow they got going, which is completely understandable :D
