Hey guys, Didn't know where to post this, shouldn't we have a Technical Support or 'Blizzard Entertainment' section? Anyway, I received the following email today from donotreply @ blizzard.com <wowaccountadmin@blizzard.com>. (I copy pasted, so the weird typo after 'Hello' was also like that in the email I received) Helloďź?/P> We have the evidence to prove that your account involved in the controversial game currency transaction .If your account is found violating Terms of Use, it can, and will be suspended/closed/or terminated. In order to keep this from occurring, you should immediately verify that you are the original owner of the account. We highly recommend that you take this opportunity to verify your account information. To do so, simply click here: http:// www. battle.net/index/login (I modified the link so that you can't click it) Blizzard staff will verify your account information submitted in two days, please do not modify your account information during this time . It will not affect your game uptime. For more information, click here for answers to Frequently Asked Questions or to contact the Blizzard Billing & Account Services team. Sincerely, Account Administration Blizzard Entertainment Online Privacy Policy ----------------- So is this ligit? I mean it's a bit weird, I don't even have World of WarCraft on my Bnet account.
besides being spelt by a drunk frenchman, there are some signs of it being legit, since they link to battle.net and the webadres is @blizzard.com. Really odd
I say it's a phishing site Here's how it works: Scammers make and send fake non-blizzard emails to people saying stuff like "your account needs immediate attention to recent changes" and whatnot. Now, the people that actually HAVE done this (gold trade) and DO have a WoW account will be like "ZOMG they found out I must contact them" or "Oh, I guess I need to visit that link because Blizzard support wants me to". Now, in the email there is a nice link. Click it and it takes you to a fake website that looks like a real Battle.net login page. Now what this does to people is steal their username and password. Hope you understand. And even if it says "www.blizzard.com" in the mail and you click it, you'll be taken to another site. Example of a site you can be linked to: ((WARNING DO NOT ENTER YOUR PASSWORD ON THIS SITE!)): http://www.worldofwarcraft-security-billing.com/account/index.html
I would send Blizzard the email you received and ask them to verify if it is from them, or is it some low life phishing your account details... because the poor command of language makes it highly questionable. I would also say in my question: "If this is phishing attempt, it may be being done against players other than myself. You may want to make the community aware of it, and hopefully the perpetrator can be found and dealt with."
Please don't bother forwarding a mail. Clearly it's not from Blizzard. You do NOT have WoW on your account too! Hence it should be ignored. I get TONS of those emails in my junk-folder every day. I don't "warn" people about it.
Alright, thanks guys. Email has been removed, after looking at the html it became clear that it was indeed a phishing scam.
You can always check in the bottom left corner before you visit a link. If it isn't the same as in the letter it's most certainly a scam. Also be careful of "Bizzard.com" and other delusionary names.
Unlegit, though the blizzard.com address is troubling. Legit emails from Blizz come from noreply@blizzard.com, not donotreply@blizzard.com
I keep getting these probably once a week, it's very annoying.. I only have Starcraft registered on my Battle.net account also, sooo =/
Is that the actual link or is there a different link hidden under it? Some email clients allow for this. Also, this is called phishing. I get thousands of "Your account has been suspended! Verify now to get it back" and other such nonsense for "my WoW" account when I don't even have one -- Oh looky what I just got Noticed the REAL link at the bottom
