Since I was online to witness this latest spamming for the impressive "provider of Electrical Electronics ". I couldn't help but wonder if they are really effective or not. I can't imagine they last very long on most forums, as they are clearly spam, and as such I imagine they get deleted by mods quickly. Secondly, since they are obviously spam, it would seem most people would avoid clicking on the links. As such it doesn't seem like they would be able to accomplish their goal whatever it may be.

Perhaps I simply don't grasp what the creator of such spam threads, or the person that made the bot that is making the threads as is more likely, is trying to accomplish. I can't imagine they are a source of income in any way, which would be the main drive behind them I would have thought. Its not like they are just trying to clutter up forums either, as in this case only 4 threads were started, and in most cases(that I have seen at least) the number is similarly small. If just general clutter/ nuisance causing was their aim, a larger number of threads, as well as posts in legitimate threads would seem to be in order.

This being said, they must be accomplishing something or there would not be as many of them as there are, in a sense of the web, not just this forum. So there must be something I am missing behind them.

So my question to you guys, is this. What is I am missing about these spam-bots?
Also any general thoughts would be appreciated.

i have no idea. And i totally agree to what you're saying. At this time, there arent many moderators around. We suggested having an "Australian/New Zealand time zone area" moderator...guess that never happened.
I think Jon said that he has increased spam security, not sure but.

we need mods that are in a different timezone
so any unconscious mods wont be worried about the forums while they recover

and i think this thread is better on the forum information and blablabla section

First and Foremost, if you wiki the word SPAM, those threads had nothing that was any of those traits.

What you seen was marketing/advertisment. Plain and simple, people do that in order to get peoples attention, i bet you looked at them all.

They do that to get sales, to get customers. Is it annoying, to you people, yes, but the economy is **** becuase people arent buying anything. So this is a simple person trying to get customers :p. (IMO) /end

How often do you click on the ads at the side of webpages? do you ever click the viagra or fart button? (okay the fart button is an exception) Yet, those ad reveunes are enough to keep most websites afloat, with alot of ads you can get customers with barely any work, plus its free advertising in the case of adbots.

I track down these bots and report them to higher mods. It is actually my self appointed job here on the forums. My little slice of keeping things clean.

Most of these are posts though, not actual threads.
