easy account management question

I can't add friends through their email account because that section of the add friends is just not enabled on my account.

is this because of parental settings blocking real id?

if that is the case i must have accidentally set parental settings during my account creation because my parents are totally uninvolved. how do i find out what email I applied the setting management towards?

i can only add through character ids.

I have not heard of this problem, sorry.

That being said, adding people through their character name and "friend code" works fine for me, and is the only way I've used.
