Does any have any good strategies for combating being hassled early in the game. I play all races so any info on it would be helpful. What I'm talking about is not a rush, but just someone who finds you early and sends over units to distract you and kill some gathers. This was the best info I could find, but I was looking for something a bit more in depth. http://starcraft2helpme.com/?p=27
That's more applicable to a rush than the harrassment he is talking about. Harrassment you just have to be mentally prepared for, and develop multi-tasking skills (and keep aware of what is going on with your BO and such) so you can successfully defend without incurring losses either in units or in base production/maintenance.
Yes, and rushes can be considered harass. You don't necessarily have to go all in. If you see viking's coming. Get your sides and get range/speed/defense. Pure harassment like from zerglings in your base, is knowing how to deal with it. There are many ways.
I guess I'm just saying scouting isn't really the solution to harassment. Sure, knowing what the opponent is doing helps, but you could have a maphack on and harassment is still going to set you back if you don't know how to deal with it. Nor can you expect to scout out every incoming attempt to harass your base. So while rushing is a form of harassment, and scouting certainly goes a long way to helping against a rush, it doesn't go that far against helping against harassment in general. Nor is rushing really of relevance here, since the OP specifically said he isn't talking about a rush.
I think the OP is talking about a worker coming into your base and attacking your workers. As you try to kill that annoying enemy worker, you move three of your own workers off your minerals. Then you forget to build your refinery while your attacking the worker. Then you forget to scout. Then you haven't even gotten that first marine. It's more of a mental harassment. One way to deal with it is to do the same thing to your opponent. That way at least your both evenly annoyed, and one player doesn't really have the advantage. As terran, you can do a super early wall off, but you'll be sacrificing SCV production. As zerg, your queen/ first lings should be pumped out fast enough to shove the worker off, unless your going for a very economic focused build. Not sure what specifically do to as toss. No matter your race, don't let the mental harassment get to you. Stick to your build order. Remember that unless your opponent is really, really good, they're sacrificing macro in order to micro their one harassing worker so well. So just keep your chin up
LMAO hassled? Are there salesmen walking up to you every time a game loads? I'm sorry, I don't mean to make fun, but language amuses me. I gonna actually start calling it that, I prefer it to harass. But, yes, scouting is key. The other keys you need to get are being able to recognize what your opponent is doing and knowing how to counter. Zerg against cannon rush. Podcast, very good stuff. Search google and youtube for things like SC2 cheese defense, rush defense. Better yet figure out the names of the cheese strategies and look those up.
Yes scouting is the key. But how will you know if its harassment or not? Well, this is why its good to learn some builds for all 3 races. When you run in your worker to scout, and you see an such things as an early Spawning Pool, or a 9 Barracks, you can assume harassment. Of course, you can never be to sure if they will harass or not. However, better safe than sorry. If you like playing Zerg, speedlings are pretty much good against all types of harass. And speedlings aren't necessarily a waste of money either b/c they're extremely useful throughout the game.
Depending on what you mean by harrassment, you should look to build the sensor tower. Alot of players neglect to build it. It gives you time to see an imminent attack which gives you enough time to have your forces ready for it. It also cuts down on cheese tactics. If your talking about early game, then all I can suggest is wall off asap or try and push for early units.
I play toss. The two most common harrass tactics from the other two races are ling harrass and reaper harrass. Both of these harrass tactics take advantage of slow zealot speed. Vs zerg, I go pylon on 8, gate on 12, rally the gate to your workers. Build your pylons and gates close to your nexus, and make sure each gateway has at least 2 pylons supporting it. Rally all your zealots to your worker line. When the lings come, try to force them into your worker line, where your zealot+worker force will beat them. Do not let the lings lure your zealot away from the workers, or they will run around you and snipe some of your workers. They will try to lure you by hitting your gates/pylons, but if you have 2 pylons by each gate they shouldn't be able to hurt you. Keep cranking the z's. Once you have 3 or so, they will leave. In the mid game, I put a couple of cannons by my worker line. This will save you from mutas and it will also help if they try to speedling harrass you. The speedling harrass is annoying in SC2 because the ramps are harder to block. Some block with their buildings, but I like to keep everything close to the nexus vs zerg because of the speed disadvantage toss has. Vs terran, go pylon on 8, gate on 12, gas immediately after gate, and then cybernetics AS SOON AS THE GATE IS UP. Once your cybernetics is warping, you can make a zealot. Rally the gate to your worker line. As soon as your cybernetics is up, make a stalker and rally it to your worker line. Leave that stalker in your worker line for the early game. if the reapers come, send your guys after it, but don't take them far from the workers. A couple of stalkers in the worker line is all you need to hold off the reapers.
