Looks like EA is into making PC now EA crysis warhead PC (no monitor) -Core 2 Duo E7300 2.66GHz -Nvidia 9800GT 512mb -2GB DDR2 800MHz (2x1GB) -250GB HD 7200rpm -DVD-ROM only -500W power supply Hits: -Cheap -Decent CPU -Great Graphic card Miss: -not quad core -Just enough RAM for Vista -under-average storage http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/09/eas-crysis-warhead-pc-can-uh-play-some-game/ and coming soon at http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/campaigns/campaigntemplate.asp?CampaignID=716
1) This PC is not made by EA, it's sponsored by them. 2) It has a ****ty processor for a $700 PC. 3) My suggestion is better and comes to $624. Go with that.
Note the difference between playing crisis and playing it well. You can build a better system yourself that play crisis on higher settings and comes without bloatware for the same price.
For gaming, you're better with Single or Dual Core, Quad core is for multitasking. Games usualy runs on single process thus single core processing is better. Splitting your process between cores slighty hinders performance.
LOL why are you mad, I didn't say your is bad. it's just a alternative way for people that don't want to build one
I'm not mad. If you want to be lazy and spend more for the PC that's fine. But I do get mad when a company sponsors a less than perfect solution.
well a 9800gt is a plus because nvidia will soon release their new physic engine. but 8800gt is above average too. I guess the fact that ea did give them rebate on graphic card.
If you want the most bang-for-the-buck go for a Radeon 4870 and a E8400. Overclock the E8400 to 3,6 with stock cooling and voilá!
stock cooling? e8400? 3.6ghz?? ive heard of nothing but bad voodoo about the stock intel cooling units. what i heard is that they put such a thick layer of thermal paste on the bottom of their heatsink so that it makes it difficult to get all 4 pushpins in the motherboard, and 50 percent of the time people dont notice they havent pushed it all the way in correctly, and the heatsink doesnt conduct any heat and you burn your processor. IF you use a stock intel heatsink, USE ARCTIC SILVER 5! use rubbing alcohol and get the stock thermal compound off and use AS5 in its place, i heard this works many wonders.
If you don't have rubbing alcohol, any type of household cleaning oil will work as well. I used lemon oil when mounting the stock cooler on my mom's computer and it worked fine.
I think the parts are all probably quality. Skimping on the PSU would be a bad move because it'd give EA a bad custom computer reputation right off the bat. Generic PSU's tend to drag a system's resources down with it, so EA probably went for the cheapest possible quality 500w PSU. But if anybody thinks they're gonna run anything higher than all High, DX9, 0xAA on that computer, they're sadly mistaken. I have a 9800GT and it experiences very noticeable slowdown when graphically intensive stuff happens in Crysis (ie, every 10 seconds). They're overgeneralizing with "it can run Crysis!"... yes, and so can the 4 year old single-core dinosaur in my closet. The question is about quality, not "can it" or "can't it". Overall, they're charging $100-$150 more than it'd take to build it yourself, but that's business. If there was no profit margin for them, there'd be no reason to do this. If you want to see a real ripoff, though, take a look at this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/configdetails.asp?Base=3770922 Base computer with cheapest possible components starting at $2100. Jesus Christ. They have to be making over $1000 on each of these sold.
