I think the overmind is still alive and Duran is his servant.. I mean think about it why would the overmind stop at just kerrigan? And do you honestly believe that it couldn't manifest its self on a distant world after its original body was destroyed? Think about it I mean Duran said he's serving someone who has interests in combining both the zerg and the protoss into one being. He said the ones he served were much older then kerrigan.. I mean the overmind wanted the exact same thing, and it makes sense that duran was its second creation after it infested kerrigan.

The Overmind was killed by a Dark Templar attack (used by Tassadar). The second one was killed by Zeratul. They're not just dead, they're Deader Than Dead.

The xel'naga had similar interests as well. Not only did Tassadar, Zeratul and the Overmind all hint at that in the first game, but Twilight says that outright.

Furthermore, Duran said he served a power that has slept for countless ages. The first Overmind had been dead for a year, and the second one had been dead for days. The Overmind does not match his statements.

The events of StarCraft and the Brood War were but a blink of an eye as far as the Overmind's age is concerned. Before that the Overmind spent sixty years traveling to the Koprulu Sector, and before that he spent millenia trying to find and assimilate the race that would destroy the Protoss.

Of course, all that activity hardly counts as "sleeping," So Duran is almost certainly referring to the remnants of the Xel'Naga fleet.

I concur with the above two statements and elaborations. However, the Overmind did hint to the Cerebrate in Episode II that the Overmind wanted to incorporate the purity of essence (Zerg) and purity of form (Protoss).

Samir Duran apparently has some Confederate Resistance marines as friends. Or they're UED civilians.
