There it is. This is a question that most of us are wondering.

I voted for none of them. The marine must stay like he is now, like we know him. A soldier with a big rectangular gun (for SC2).

When you watch the cinematic you wee this "classic" infantry unit. You don't see nor a bayonnet nor a shield. Of course inside the game-play we see them. But the marine will not be the marine we know. I hope Blizzard will delete those elements.

Why do I add the launch-grenade ? Remember the first cinematic of Brood War, the intro, we see a marine launching two grenades from his gun to kill two zerglings. We saw smoke from the launch grenade. However the marine in SC1 does not launch grenades inside the game. However the cinematic yes.
But the new rectangular gun does not seem to have a launch grenade. That can maybe be an upgrade for the game ...

That's strange. There are differences between the units in cinematics and the game itself.

That does not make the marine we know a real marine.

I want it both out. Bayonnets are useless and the shield should at least get a makeover.

We can give a shield to the medic, but not to the marine. That's senseless to give a shield to a marine, even as an upgrade.

I think there's already a discussion such as these.

The bayonet is so World War 1.

Whatever... I'll hide them in the bunker if they continue to be so ugly.

I like the idea of an interesting visual upgrade for the marines but a shield does not fit the futuristic starcraft universe. If you are facing lasers, acid, and bombs a metal shield just doesn't fit. A hand held force shield would have made more sense but that's too like the Protoss.

I voted none of them, but barely. I am all for Blizzard creating visual cues that signal an upgrade. However, I agree with posters above who say that a bayonet and a shield are not appropriate for the Starcraft universe.

Maybe instead, upon upgraded hit points Marines could get a different color armor, or a more sleek looking one. As far as the weapon range upgrade, instead of a bayonet, make the gun a little bit longer or bigger.

Of course in all reality I think that this is a pretty minor issue, and if Blizzard doesn't change anything I won't complain about it. Starcraft 2 = baller.

I remember the concept art of the Terran Medic. This was a man with a barb who was a medic, and handed a flag of the red cross. He also got a shield to protect him (if I remember well).

Can someone post this picture please ?

shields are ridiculous... i see some thing like a plasma bayonet. That would be kind of cool. I don't see a metal bayonet being useful against zergling flesh or Zealot armor

Hows a shield not a good idea? I fail to see how the shield doesnt offer better protection from any kind of attack

Why not give'em a tougher armor upgrade, or a life support system to justify the extra HPs? Lore-wise would make more sense than shields, and to me at least would be a lot more cool. The life-support system could be seen as another backpack, or just a different look for the armor.

a bayonet would be worthless against zerglings cause there so fast. a sheild would be worthless. a grenade launcher would be fun to have and maybe be like a casting skill and it has a recharge and everything. maybe give the medic a sheild and a plasma knife or somethin so that it has some form of protection but a very weak one....

A shield would be a lot more useful than you'd think. Assuming that the shield is probably a hard metal alloy that's much harder than steel, it would take a zergling more time to bust through that, which gives the marine or other marines more time to kill the attacking zergling. Generally, the more metal you have between you and a horde of charging enemies, the better.

Even so, it's still better than nothing. Out on the battlefield, every little thing makes a difference.
