I was browsing youtube when I discovered some SC videos like this one:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQPm-1aV-R0

    Just as an example

And my question is, do most players click, drag, etc. as crazily fast as that player does? I notice that he is constantly dragging a box around SCVs, also. But orders are being issued so rapidly that I can't tell if he is just OCD or if there is a purpose to that.

I think it's just fast forwarded because I don't think you can issue orders that fast.

Of course you can give orders that fast... it's not fast forwarded. Makatak, what you can see at the beginning is indeed OCD and the continuous rapid key presses and mouse movements are only to warm them up to when such a speed will be required, during late game and battles.

    Yes, but he looks skilled..
He plays with all races and he even won a 2v1.

His APM looks to be about 200. He's pretty good but I wouldn't say he's pro or gosu. But I give him props. ;)

Anyway, yeah, this is about how most skilled players play.

well then I think that clearly supports my argument that SC is more of a button masher than a strategy game. I don't think I could ever play that fast even if I used a very basic, repetitive strategy.

maka, pro players need to be able to push buttons that fast in order to be competative late game.

I've seen matches where pro players are controlling multiple battles, drops, and production ques at the same time. (Best I've ever seen was battles along each pathway to the other side, drops going into each battle, and 2-3 drops per player into enemy bases; all at the same time).

    500 command/minute? i think it's kinda impossible

I think the strategie is important. But bigger strategie need faster command.
I never tried hotkey, have you some trick for me?

Don't worry mak people who are able to do this are the sc gamer equivalent of professional NFL players compared to some guy who plays football with his friends. You don't need to be that good if your just enjoying the game.

I don't drag the box around my workers, but I do spam apm early game.

It warms you up, so your apm will stay higher then it would otherwise.

You don't hotkey? You really should, it helps tremendously.

Pro players play that fast easily and on fast, not surprising if he was even just average.

Oh thats just COMBAT-EX, a commentator and ICCUP B player.

A lot of players play this fast, but a lot dont do :)

    Thats bul**** me555

Most "noobs" have an APM between 40-60. pro players have an APM from 240 (savior) to around 380 (bisu) and clock at 600 (july_zerg once managed 800).

Yep, on average, most skilled SC2 players perform around 100+ clicks per minute. This has led to extentisve hand injury (repetitive strain injury) which has plagued many PRO players throughout the gaming community. Though some players can perform up to 200.. that's more than 3 cliicks per second which is just insane. During those 'clicks' the screen may shift up to 70 times per second. If u watch an early game in Warcraft 3 or SC, you'll see that there's alot of Micro going on.

Pretty sure that for any rts and for any good player at any such rts, they are very very fast.. They have to be, otherwise they wouldn't be very good.

Is there any free program you can use to count actions per minute reguardless of the game?

Id be interested to see my number for the game I play.
