Do I need two copies to play with my wife?

Do I need to purchase two copies to play multiplayer starcraft with my wife, or is it possible to do this with one copy?

Also- I only have a 128kbps up/ 728kbps down DSL connection. Is this fast enough for two players?

I'm pretty frustrated about dropping the lan and spawn features from SCII, if they did drop them (can't find a solid answer). The only way I like to play is multiplayer with my friends, and it sounds like I need to buy both a faster internet connection and multiple copies to make this possible. This doesn't seem fair at all. Am I mistaken?

You will need to buy a second copy to play with your wife, i'm sorry.

It's to prevent pirating, I agree with Blizzard but it is a bummer.

Ok, thanks for the answer, but it's quite a bummer.

It seems like this would encourage piracy- I'd bet a hacked copy will be available eventually with some sort of lan support (perhaps running a local b.net server). Only people with illegal copies will be able to enjoy a full featured version, so people will be forced to pirate it, even if they'd otherwise be willing to purchase it legally.

I pre-payed a year contract on a very slow DSL connection, so I may need to wait for a hacked pirated copy before I can play :(

I wish they would learn from this. I own a legal copy of SC I, but I use the hacked Razor 1911 version, because it works better. I can do a "spawn" in Brood war, and I can play without having to insert the disc every time.

Actually, I was just talking about that over at IGN. Please read this post

"Yes, you can play LAN. It's not a matter of the game not allowing you to, it's TCP/IP protocol. If you and your buddy are in the same house, using the same router, the game information doesn't actually leave your house. You just need to connect to b-net to validate your copy of the game.

Basically, LAN is still there, just not explicitly. The two conditions different from the first game are that each player has to have their own registered copy of the game and you each have to be connected to the Internet on the same router. You could have Internet slower than dial-up and still have a zero-lag game over your home network."

    Hope this helps!

I don't think this is true. During beta, if the battle.net server went down for any reason, all open games would disconnect. I think the game information actually does leave your house. Its really stupid on Blizzard's part, but yeah, I don't think that's true about zero-lag from playing in the same house. If it was, Blizzard wouldn't have announced a "Starcraft 2 Professional" version for tournament play to unlock LAN.

On a separate note, just to mention: removing LAN from starcraft 2 has NOTHING to do with piracy. There's tons of anti-piracy features. It was done so that they could sell the game with a subscription model in certain countries. I.e., no one in Korea or Russia would pay 9.99 monthly if they could buy the game once for 20 bucks and play on a LAN with their friends.

Can I play with my brother?

    Hi
I'm interested in buying Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty but the game is a bit expensive for me..
You all can say its cheap because it has 29 missions and a pretty good mp, but that isnt cheap for me..
Its hard for me to buy a game for 60€ (euros since im from Portugal)..

My question would be, since there is no LAN anymore, and since after installing SC II in two computers, i cant play with the 2 at the same time.. Is there any way i can play with my brother SC II besides buying the game twice?

If there is another way, me and my brother could divide the expenses, but if there isnt,, I guess i'll have to wait some months :(
