I'm asking for a huge favor. My friend compiled this list when these parts were on sale. If I can't slice off at least $100, could any of you use your expertise to build me the cheapest set (just board, ram, cpu, p-supply, video card on www.newegg.com) that can handle SC2 on ultra? I would be ecstatic for any advice or collaboration!

    Motherboard ($120 - no shipping)

GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 LGA 1156 Intel P55 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

    Ram - EMCZZYX22 ($75 - no shipping)

    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

    Processor ($205 - no shipping)

    Intel Core i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80605I5760

    Video Card ($198)

    GIGABYTE GV-N465MT-1GI GeForce GTX 465 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support

    Power supply ($92)

Antec EarthWatts EA750 750W Continuous Power ATX12V version 2.3 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC

    Case ($88)

Just wondering - how essential is it that you have all-ULTRA settings?

My laptop is easily capable of Ultra, but I usually run on Medium or High to cut down on heat and because Ultra graphics can get distracting sometimes.

    Just a thought.

Not essential at this point. My gamer friends tell me shadow settings (and AA effects, I suspect) carry a big burden.

Anyway someone could help me cheapen this build up for at least quality high settings? I think it's overkill.

    - Thanks.

If the only thing you're looking to get out of your computer is Starcraft 2 on High/Ultra settings, you could buy much cheaper parts. How future-proof would that be? well..

For instance, SC2 only uses 2 cores, while you're buying a i5 quad core. If you really want to save money, you can get a e8400 (socket 775).

Ati 5770 would suffice for ultra settings and costs $130-150.

A p43 motherboard for about $70 would be just fine.

Again, this is if you absolutely need to save the money, buying an outdated platform + ddr2 isn't ideal.

    Take a look around here:
