Hey guys. I had a strange occurance happen the other day. Upon putting my starcraft disk into my laptop it made a TON of strange noise. It almost sounded like an electric razor. The disk still loads but its happend once or twice that after, even with the disk loading, ive noticed the drive disappears from "my computer" Thankfuly it comes back after a restart however. This only happend recently, though I played the disk in my parents computer a time or two right after I bought it. I then thought it was my laptop, but a) other disks dont make the noise, and b) my father mentioned it was doing the same thing in their computer earlier that day (drive also temporarily disapeared) the noise stops once the game loads, and everything works, its just making me worry somethings going wrong. The disk seems pretty scratch free, so I really dont know whats up. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks guys!
I'm pretty sure your drive it toast. Do other disc have this issue in your laptop? Where you able to get the game installed? You don't need the disc to play the game... If its not installed on the laptop, try sharing your parents DVD drive on the network and installing that way. Done that more then a few times to be able to play the original at LAN parties and people with busted drives(before the advent of the offical no-cd crack). Normally drives only disappear from windows when a) your running XP b) you've got that Sony anti-piracy stuff from their music CD's installed (root kit). If you got the game installed already.. put the disc up and forgetaboutit. lol
I had no idea that i didnt need the disk, lol thats pretty sick. But yeah, it was just this disk, and when i did certain functions with the disk in, such as booting up my lappy and so forth. I guess if i dont need the disk though I don't need to be concerned.
also if you dont mind me asking, just as ive gotcha here and it was your troubleshooting thread (which has been a lot of help) I'm about to do the fan adjustment thing from RivaTuner, could you explain to me what I actually do with RivaTuner open? =P
